Hippies? Love 'em or hate 'em? I dont know where I stand.
To me, the 60's and 70's were dogged in dope. This went into the music too. My parents love that stuff. I love the complete opposite clean shit. The hippies in general had the wrong idea, u dont need to get high to be nice to people I just dont see the point in getting high like that. If i was around in the 60's in USA, hell no would be a hippy. Would u be one or were u one? All that "summer of love" shit was just media hype right? I really don't like that era at all. I freaking LOVE hippies! The transients that come into town every summer are some of the coolest, nicest, most generous people I've ever met.
My dad was one too. Even in the early 90's when he passed away, the guy'd never really left the 60's completely. I'm now the proud owner of a massive collection of vinyls containing the best of music from that era, thanks to his hippie-ness. I can also make some mean "brownies". I think that the "hippy" movement involved a little bit more than just "getting high".that would be a naive way to describe them.
These "dirty hippies" that some of you here have a problem with actually stood for civil rights and freedoms for people without a voice at the time. If it weren't for some of these "dirty hippies" taking a stand and protesting for our rights back in the 60's,it might be safe to say that things would have been different and our government would probably be in control of us even moreso than they already are. these "dirty hippies" took alot of billy-clubs to the head for us. the mayor of Chicago,Daley,gave orders to the Chicago police to "shoot hippies on sight" during the Chicago riots.pretty open-minded guy huh?These were the kinds of people(leaders)that the hippies were protesting against.Right on for them!
