I don't think "the real world" is really proof of that without statistics (not saying that studies wouldn't show exactly what you're saying - you may be right). I'm sure there are some studies out there...all I know is that I think I'm probably a better person for getting the occasional spanking - I turned out fine (except for the whole "conservative" thing anyways! smile)

what about societies where spanking is frowned upon? do they have the same prison population numbers? some comparisons there would probably give you a pretty good answer to your question.

I totally agree - I'm not saying I'm right here (for once!! ha!) I'm just sayin that I THINK mild spanking, in moderation and as negative reinforcement can actually benifit a kid. I don't have the stats on it though, so I could definitely be wrong. nod (which is normally the case! smile)

lol "negative reinforcement" indeed!

i often think that children act up when they are put into situations they are not able to handle - busy malls, loud home environments, overstimulation of all sorts... adults put them in those situations, maybe they are the ones who need a spanking.

also, i don't believe that people acting in anger know the difference between a spanking and a beating. it's very subjective. one thing i do know - my father didn't know the difference. i'd like to think that i turned out ok DESPITE the physical abuse i experienced as a child. the cycle most certainly stops with me. i would never lay a hand on a child. peace

If Celine Dion would have gotten her ass beat as a child maybe she would have grown up to be a doctor or dentist or something, and we'd never had to put up with the Titanic song. confused
