in one week, i will be a daytime person.

my boss just told me to get ready and stock up on the morning blend coffee, because as of next monday, i will FINALLY BE WORKING A DAY SHIFT AT MY JOB!!! woot!

this means i can hang out with my friends at night, i can make dinner with my sweetheart, i can go to concerts without having to ask for time off work, i can try out for plays/improv groups/sketch comedy shows, i can watch prime time television (not that i'd want to, but..), and all kinds of neeto stuff that you nine-to-fivers take for granted!

no more having to work while the cleaning people are vacuuming in the office! no more having to take the bus home with meth freaks and david lynch characters! no more having to explain my "weird work schedule" to people! yay! yay! yipee!

of course, i will be starting a thread within three weeks bitching about getting up early in the morning, and how inhumane it is. mr.green

thank you! indeed i have.

there was a time where working nights suited me really well, but i realized at the beginning of this year that it really doesn't do me much good at all anymore, other than the obvious fact that i have a job and a paycheck.

i'm going to be clocking in REALLY early with my new schedule, but i don't care...i'll be clocking OUT really early as well! biggrin

it may be for some people, but it sure wasn't for me. most of the time i've been working nights have been second shift (afternoon to midnight), but i had to do a month on the graveyard shift this summer, and it nearly killed me - no pun intended! dead

Welcome to the grown-up shift... smile

I've always felt that first shift if for family people...second
shift is for young people (who can close the bars at quitting time)
and NOBODY works the 3rd shift unless your are forced to (i worked it
for about 8 years straight!)
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

well, i don't know about "grown-up" lol

when i worked second shift in NYC, it was really helpful to me because i could work on my writing and theater projects during the day and get stuff done in the city while everyone else was at work...then at night, i could go to my job and then come home late and go out if i wanted, and sleep in the next day if i wanted.

it's different in chicago - it's more of a 9 to 5 town, and even the most hardcore of creative folks schedule stuff after 5pm, so if i wanna get involved in anything here in chicago, i can't stay with the night time schedule. there are a lot of plusses to a 2nd shift schedule, but where i am in life and where i am geographically right now, it just isn't paying off for me.
