I was heavily flipping through my Ansel Adams folder cuz the NY Times had a lil article about his Autumn Moon pictures being 'redone' by loads of different photographers. Then this morning I aaw the MOUNTAINS thread and I just needed to look at his pics...

Once in every 19 years the moon is over that particular mountain on that particular place...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9366131/

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. - As the moon rose in the evening sky, a crowd gathered at Glacier Point to relive an iconic scene captured by photographer Ansel Adams more than 50 years ago.

About 300 amateur photographers, astronomers and other spectators came Thursday to watch conditions align to repeat the scene in the famous Adams image “Autumn Moon.”

Astronomers nailed down the exact time and date that Adams snapped the photograph in Yosemite National Park in 1948 — and determined that the sun and moon would return to the same positions Thursday.

Here the original pic

And this year;

The moon rises over the Clark Mountain Range on Sept. 15, seen from Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park, Calif. Astronomers have pinned down the exact time and date that photographer Ansel Adams snapped his ethereal picture "Autumn Moon," and determined that the sun, moon and mountains were to align in the same positions on Sept. 15 at 7:03 p.m. as they did more than 55 years ago when Adams photographed the scene.

Do you really wish he had done these in colour? I prefer the textures his black and white photos were able to capture. A few years ago, my husband and I climbed Half Dome and took pictures of Yosemite while traveling up and down the mountain. I was smitten with the blue sky agains the gray/brown of the rock, but nothing can touch Ansel's eye. And I really like his photos of Georgia O'Keeffe, too.

Of course, taking b/w pics is a different art-form than colour. Even though I love the b/w pics, I would have loved him see work in colours during that period too.

One of may favourites, I love his South West work. When I worked in the SW I visited some of the spots he shot, amazing off print too.

I was lucky enough to be paid to live there, I never even dremed some of the places exsisted (let alone in the US) but try and go off season, three hundred quid to phoenix from London. The space will blow you away.
