Ahhh, those were the days, back when the Marvel staff was doing some serious drugs! Who can forget the greats like the KISS comic (which all the band members actually donated bits of their blood to be put on the plates, so the comic could actually be made in the blood of the band)?: Or howzabout the Alice Cooper comic?: Or the Marvel Star Wars comics that featured a humanoid, talking, green, bounty-hunter rabbit?: Drugs had to be involved with this one. How did this title get past the comics code?: And let us not forget: Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. By the way, here's the original WHAT IF? #12 cover, unaltered:

Yeah, well I'm just a big enough dork to remember the original issue! Of course, I should point out that all the covers I posted were actually REAL! Here's another drug-induced Marvel comic, that actually saw print: Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. [Edited 9/19/05 9:20am] Oh MAN does that ever look like it sucks. Oh, I LOVE it!! I especially love the use of that horrible issue of ASM! Yes, that issue is sooooo typical of the crap being produced in the early 90s. Even with a great artist like Mark Bagley on the book, it still frequently sucked. The stories were just horrible! That one, in particular, was part of the whole "Peter's Parents Turn Out To Be S.H.I.E.L.D Agents, And It Is Revealed That They Faked Their Deaths" storyline that sucked so much back in the day! (oh, and it turned out that they weren't really his parents, but rather ROBOTS MADE TO LOOK LIKE THEM that had been designed by The Chameleon. Personally, I'd rather read about Rick James turning into The Hulk any day). Spidey 2099 was a well written series, well, in the beginning at least. | |
