"Living Single" Appreciation Thread

Since we have a "Martin" appreciation thread, I thought that we needed to have a "Living Single" appreciation thread as well. I remember back in the 90's when "Living Single" and "Martin" were being broadcasted back to back. "Living Single" had some great actors/actresses, funny story lines and great writers. Show your love! woot!

I'll start by singing the theme song:

We are living single. Yes, we're living the single Life. (Yeah!)
We're living (heyyy!) single.
And in a 90's kinda world, I'm glad I got my girls.
Keep ya head up (what), keep ya head (that's right).
Whenever this life is tough ya gotta fight with,
Ya homegirls standin' to ya left and ya right.
True blue, We tight like glue!
We are living single
And in a 90's kinda world, I'm glad I got my girls.
Booboopadoopado ahhhhh.

Yeah its actually the blueprint for Friends. This has been discussed in a few books, can't remember which ones of hand. That's television, they take a show that only "appeals" to a certain segment of the population, cook it, put in different faces and serve it up to the masses.

Yeah-- he was on the DL Hughley show too.
Him and Regine (Kim Fields)had a thing for a while. I was clueless about that until the show ended.

I loved this show. The reruns come on either Lifetime or O! now.

DPWC beat me to it.

I think that former members of the Living Single went on to create Friends. It is staggering. The Singles are still, excepting Queen Latifah, looking for steady work. The Friends are megastars and set for life. There is no discernible difference in quality. I liked both shows (tho boycotted Friends for years). There is only ONE difference.

Never knew that Living Single and Friends were created by the same people. Sad that the cast of Friends are set for life, and the cast of Living Single are struggling. I know that TC Carson (who played Kyle on the show), has done some acting work and some voice-overs. Think that Overton is doing stand-up comedy now. Not sure what Kim Fields and Erika Alexander are doing now.

Erika Alexander still does spot parts every now and then-- I saw her on the UPN show half and half-- i think that girl is so talented-- she was hilarious --physical comedy and deadpan delivery are guaranteed to get me everytime.

Kim Fields directed the Kenan and Kel show, and i think she also is doing movies as well now-- i saw her E! True hollywood story a couple months back. Very interesting....nod

If I am not mistaken Yvette Lee Bowser (who done some work on A Different World and also the Cosby Show and now she created and is currently doing Half and Half which why you all see the Kyle/Maxine crossover on last season of Half and Half) created Living Single and therefore I don't think that she or the behind the scenes staff of Living Single had anything to do with the creating of Friends but YES it was confirmed that Friends was indeed based on Living Single yet Friends was more mainstream than LS. Also that I enjoyed watched the show yet I like Martin a little better.

My favorite Living Single moments were when Kyle and Maxine ahd their little catfights and hurled insults at each other yet they were crazy for each other. And not to mention when Kim Field changed wigs ever scenes. And also Queen Latifah being in your face boss when she ran Flava magazine.

I loved the Thursday lineup on Fox and also that it was a must see TV for us person of color especially.

Okay speaking of FOX former Thursday lineup appreciation threads where is New York Undercover? We had Martin and now we have Living Single. Well I better created one. wink
