I watched Orson Welles' movie adaptation of it again the other week (I have it on dvd) and it just gives me goosebumps. Most of Shakespear's work I find to be nice but it doesn't do anything for me, except for MacBeth which astounded me first time I read it and keeps compelling me, even after having read it and watched it at least 50 times now It truly is an awsome piece of literature and hell who cares if you don't like any other stuff, each to their own mate.

Ako meeloper... shuddup, this is a good one, this is not "Da Vinci Horribilus" this is actually a very well written book. it's got beautiful lines and, compared to other best sellers, a voice of it's own. Beautifull! and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I read Brokeback Mountain, the short story by Annie Proulx last week and I am still obsessed with it. The story is unbearably sad and the writer´s style fascinated me: it´s raw, spare, she doesn´t waste a single word and there is so much packed in a single sentence. She is one brilliant writer and am gonna read more from her. Definetely one of the most powerful stories that I have ever read.
Now I cannot wait for the film Ang Lee has made based on the short story. It looks fantastic and has gotten nothing but glowing reviews both at Toronto and Venice Film festivals.

After Miquel posted the Brokeback Mountain thread, I looked up the trailer and it made me cry, yes it did. Have been emotional ever since. Re-read the story, been playing The First Day Of My Life by Connor Oberst. Man, I'm a mess... I need a hug now. Please do read as much Proulx as you can. She is the kind of wroter that travels, watches and then spins her own story. www.annieproulx.com
