My mom is Jamaican, and mixed with Black,White, and Chinese.

I'm 1/8th Chinese.

I'm also 1/8th Black.

The Chinese showed up a lot more.

People look at me and know that I'm "different" or "mixed" somehow, but they can't pin it down.

Asian people can usually tell, though.

That's interesting about catching out closet racists - it shouldn't really make any difference. For exampe, one white person hearing a racist diatribe by a white friend should speak up, but I know what you're saying and it's interesting that you find yourself in that position.

I always mark Multiracial. If I can mark more than one box, I mark black, white, and chinese.

I've come across people in my life who are actually angry that I don't call myself white, because my skin is light. They just don't get it, that I'd be denying my mother and her family and her heritage, which is also mine. Sometimes I point out that I am an octoroon - the antiquated term for someone 1/8 black - and octoroons were also enslaved, although they did have more "rights" than other slaves. This usually shuts people up.

Defining asian to me is as difficult as defining "white". But on a mundane level, most will think Jacky Chan or Lucy Lu.
