I didn't need to know I wouldn't have known...I would have been JUST FINE not knowing.
The guy that struck another car on the freeway causing it to hit and kill one of my very best friends, while he was on duty as a volunteer firefighter responding to a car fire, just walked in the front door of our office. I had never seen him before. The other person I work with knows him and told me who it was. Now I feel just numb. I didn't need to know [Edited 9/14/05 13:11pm]

Was it a complete accident or were other factors involved? M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! long story short, it was an accident. I just hate calling it that since the guy was going WAY too fast, and wasn't paying any attention. Ya know?
He struck the car in front of him and it in turn struck a cop and 3 firefighters. My friend got the worst of it and died in surgery 3 hours later from a torn aorta. It was 7:20 in the morning on a bright and sunny day on a very straight stretch of freeway. I drove by on my way to work about 2 minutes after it happened. I don't know...I just didn't need to know it was him ya know. I could have been just fine never knowing exactly what he looked like (there was no trial or anything my friends widow and the courts did some kind of arbitration agreement thing Now I have this face in my head.

i think it's perfectly acceptable for you to remove yourself from the environment if you feel you need to. nobody has to know why. if it were too intense for me, i'd just say "i don't feel well right now" and excuse myself.
sorry you're in that situation.

sorry you're in that situation. Thankfully he wasn't here long, I can't shake the feeling though. I'm off in 35 and I'm going home for a huge hug

You handled it well. hugs M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! Geez, that's gotta be tough knowing that you saw the person who accidentally struck and killed one of your best friends. And to have to try to make conversation with him like everything is okay is even tougher. I give you credit, I know it's difficult for you. [Edited 9/14/05 15:33pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
