i bought a canon A510 13 days ago... i think it's going back to the store tomorrow
the lens cover doesn't want to retract on mine. you have to use your fingernail to tease it back

I have that camera. I love it.

I used to have the version that came out before it and the same thing happened.

I guess it's a flaw in the design, it seems to happen a lot with that camera.

definately a flaw in the design. so you open it with your nail each time?

I did... although I gave it to my sister. It was a bit expensive... at the time that I bought it... it was nearly $600 dollars. I loved it! Although some of the function buttons would not work, this was after some heavy usagage. Ugh. ~Smile. I bought another one, this time a Kodak, less expensive... I loved it as well... and after a year, the shutter kinda hesitates when shutting. I feel that it is my fault for putting it through the hell I do. Rain, dirt storm... it has a job to do. ~Smile.

Take it back and exchange it for the same one... I am sure they will not hesitate giving you another if you have the receipt, plus have purchased it recently.

i am looking into buying a new Nikon

It's a shame you had a problem with the Canon as they are very good cameras. The picture quality is very good compared to others.
I have a few cameras for work, but the one I have for taking snaps at home and about is the Canon Ixus 500.


Never had a problem with it and the pictures are great.

thanks everybody... i exchanged it for the slightly more expensive but very similar canon A520...

the lens cover thingy looks a bit different so perhaps there isn't the same problem with this model
