Baby-love, in all honesty if I were you, and given that you don't want to shell out too many $$$ for the cake, I would try a modified version of it to save you time and money, otherwise you're going to stress yourself out and spend more money than if you would have just bought the thing ready-to-serve. As a true foodie and amateur gourmet cook, I would suggest taking a short-cut or two: for example, do the truffle filling and/or frosting topping from scratch for authenticy and near orgasmic tastiness, but for the sake of time constraints, consider substituting the actual cake itself with some fabulous super-duper- chocolately-moist cake mix from the supermarket to yield fool proof results in terms of density, height, etc...please also keep in mind that because there appears to be a lot of sculpting with this cake, you want to have it completed
at least a day before the party....the sauce can be done and stored in the fridge up to a week ahead, so that on the morning of the party you can just puul that baby out of the fridge and set it on your prettiest cake plate!

drool This is soo bad....I swear I've gained 10lbs googling!

GOTTA LOVE EPICURIOUS! THOSE ARE MY PEEPS!

I have tried this cake before and it is TO DIE FOR! I think that if our friend just adds a bed or rasberry sauce to each plate ( the recipe of which you should also be able to find on epicurious), she'll be set, indeed!biggrin

U were right Eskimokisses it wasnt there. I am so glad u found it though. I would definitely go to the nearest Hy-vee or Price Chopper for the cake itself Nekkid. Making cakes from scratch always made me nervous. The weirdest part is my mom was probably Betty Crocker in the flesh! Anyway, u all are going to make me eat chocolate again so I hope ur happy! woot!
Shake....shake, shake, shake.
