Speaking of Bill Center, I chatted him up while in Peoria, asking him if he’d care to help me analyze the team for this story.
He declined—just doesn’t do that sort of thing, he said. Just then, as I was mentally bludgeoning him to death, we hear, “Bill!”

It was a Padres player, holding his… um, equipment, showing it to the grizzled old reporter, I guess—just letting him know it was still there, attached to his body. I won’t say who it was, out of respect for the ol’ locker-room code.

Oh, alright, I give! It was Brian Giles, who seems to have a healthy, rather playful relationship with his naked body.

Giles wouldn't be good for the clubhouse.

I heard an interview on the radio with the Padres GM and he was talking about how Giles likes to take batting practice naked, and also likes walking around the field naked. He was kind of trying to laugh it off, but it sounded a little weird to me.

Also, he said that he was concerned about it because I guess there's a crack where the fans can see into the clubhouse.
He was worried some kid would look in and see it.
