What if you're a source of, like, really bad advice?

I had doubts too about what I said. I was thinking how a deaf child couldn't listen to no-one but themselves. But then again, I suppose they couldn't listen to anyone else either, except for the sweeps of emotion and colour which make up their wordless thoughts. And then again, I think of that film Mask, where Cher's deformed son gave the blind girl a hot coal and told her that was red. Perception is peculiar. Nah, I take it back. I'd tell a child - just when you think you're getting a wee sniff of what it's all about, someone pulls that smelly rug from under your feet and you're left just as puzzled as ever at the wonder and horror of it all. If not even more so.

exactly.
once they establish self respect, the respecting of others comes naturally..

i'm always thinking about this subject because i'm in school to become a teacher...

i want 2 teach kids that:
if u know in your heart that u can succeed, DO IT.
do what makes u happy, u have more motivation that way...and when that happens, u go farther.
dream big.
let your imagination run wild every once in a while.
it's alright 2 give up...temporarily...take a break and get back 2 it later.
be what YOU want 2 be, don't try 2 live up 2 your parents' expectations...
keep friends close, but don't stick your neck out for them if u know damnwell they wouldn't for u
know when 2 say no.

there's so much i would want 2 teach my students...i don't want 2 just teach them more about what they read last night...i wanna teach them valuable lessons that they'll remember after high school...

Respect.

And I'm not talking about that "respect your elders...because I said so!" crap.

I'm talking about teaching kids respect for the world around them. Respect for themselves. Respect for their belongings. Common respect and courtesy for EVERYone, regardless of age.

Kids need to be taught as soon as they start socializing that they're a part of the world.

thank you!

i'm all for teaching a kid to think for him/herself, to question authority, and all that good stuff, but first, a kid has got to appreciate her/his place in the world if they're gonna learn how to defend, protect or improve it.
