Everyone (corporations) are doing their part. At least from my prospective. Banks are deducting amounts requested by account holders out towards charities. Stores all over are taking donations at check stands. Like Best Buys, Albertson's, Ralph's, Wal-Mart and others. It's easy to find some place if you want to donate funds.

if you live in the minneapolis area, both davanni's and rainbow are taking donations; at rainbow, they'll add your donation amount to your order at the check-out aisle.

Okay, I just heard. In my city someone used their own money 200K to rent a plane to get some of the survivors and bring them to this city. They are currently being housed at a local high school. For those in this city who want to help but need more info, org note me.

Thanks for the reminder, Mach hug

In case anyone missed this in the GD sticky, here are some places to donate for animals:

http://www.spcaec.com/sit...iv_ctrl=-1

There is a great need for donations for misplaced pets, farm animals and wild life control.

My community radio station just brought up a good point. No matter how we help, if we want to donate money, we should try to do it with cash or check. The credit card companies make $ off of all of these transactions and they already have enough of our money...

Thanks Mach for bringing up the Humane Society. I have seen pics on the news showing dogs trying to reach higher ground. I have also heard stories about ppl that had to leave their pets behind. The sad part is that most of those animals left will parish because it will take too long for them to get the water down to rescue them.

pray for everyone there, humans and creatures!

Great sticky.

A couple of little boys today were selling KoolAid for Katrina Relief. They were working their butts off, yelling to every single passing car. Then they accidently knocked over their whole container of KoolAid. They looked so heartbroken. I walked over and hit them with some cash. I couldn't help but feel better about our future, when little kids will spend their last summer afternoon helping strangers in need.

Thanks for posting this. I used to live in St Pete, now I am about 70 miles north in Brooksville. I hope to get down to St Pete soon to donate some needed items. Those of us that live in the Tampa area know that we have been lucky so far, this could have happened to us so easily..

I'm going to be giving to Habitat for humanity. (I agree that you should donate by check, or money order - the credit cards get at least 2% plus transaction fees)
On a CNN Hurricane help show Habitat said they would be building lots of prefab houses elsewhere to be shipped there fast so that people can have homes again. It's a great organization. Check it out at:

My upstairs neighbors (who are currently housing their parents from NO) are having a BBQ at a pier in NYC this Friday at 6pm. 20 bucks a head and all proceeds are going to go the Red Cross and a school in New Orleans. In his words "the food might run out, but the keg won't". I'll post more info as I get it.

I am throwing a benefit in my city. We're just getting the details together. It will be in the San Francisco Bay Area. It happens to be tied to the Love Parade as it just worked out that way, but that should bring more people.

It'll be at 111 Minna. I am sure we will be accepting donations other than the door. I can post more details later. But this is just a heads up. But basically we getting a bunch of djs and local bands to perform for the cause.

I am also donating all proceeds of my album to the cause.

You can get that here...

Katrina Evacuees in Los Angeles.

This is a message from BlueAura of the Music Club and myself, j7.

Some of the victims of Katrina have been sent out here to Los Angeles to a place called the dream center. here is their website.

http://www.dreamcenter.org/

the Los Angeles Fan Base is huge and I just know that we can all pull together and find out what this place needs in order to help take care of these people....donate or volunteer...I know I will be!

O.K. bump Squad and Orgers. We need u're help. Hopefully all of u.

Blue is going to check 2day on what the shelter needs. We will post an update on this thread later on today and throughout the week.

Wether it is toys, or food, or clothes, anything will be appreciated. We will keep u updated and hope u can help.

Again blue, and everyone else in L.A., I am lending my full support on this horrible situation, and I am sure L.A. and Southern California Music Club Members and bump Squad members and Orgers and all Prince fans/fams will want 2 know what they can do 2 help out.

We would appreciate if this could be posted to all fan sites and groups 2 get the word out and perhaps those who have evacuees in your area can do the same.

j7

There are a lot of churches around the country actually taking in and housing people from the LA and MS areas hit. Check around in your home area to see if any of the evacuees have been moved to your city. Last Sunday my church took donations and names of members who have an extra room or house to offer it up for the cause. My best friend took her extra room off the market to help. We are going to help load some stuff out on buses tonight. Money, time or, pray, they need it all.
Shake....shake, shake, shake.

My church has lots of families who have relatives in the Louisana and Mississippi areas. The church is working with aid agencies to house some of the evacuees of New Orleans and my boyfriend and I have signed up to house a family. It's gonna be a tight squeeze, but we wanted to do something in addition to a monetary donation.

I just heard that some evacuees were taken to a shelter not far from me here in Hudson Florida. They set them up outside in tents.. The shelters is normally used to house teen runaways..
I tried to contact them today to find out what we could donate. I cannot imagine being shipped here to sleep outside in a tent...
It is so hot and we have been having some nasty storms come through.
Hopefully I can reach them tomorrow and find out the situation. The news ran a short segment on it so I did not get much info...

I work for a hospital system and we're in the process of organizing a group of medical and non-medical folks to go down and help. We have to go through "official" red tape, though...so it's going to take a few more days. sigh Also, my department is taking up a "loose change" fund...we've got a giant jar full and it's only been two days. We're going to donate the $$ to the Red Cross. It's an easy thing and you can raise money fast...
