I drive Japanese cars these days.
If you're looking for a fun, sporty car which is relatively cheap on servicing, you can't go wrong with a Toyota MR2 Roadster. The only problem I find is that there isn't much baggage space. I guess it depends what your priorities are. Big people don't find it too comfortable as it's not huge on space, but I think that's the case with most sports cars. What I like most about it is that it really feels like a racing car to drive. It's very forgiving but you have to drive it with respect. I wouldn't want any other sports car in the price bracket.
