mad uh-oh. It does hurt on one side, but only when I try to force my mouth open with my fingers. It happened to a friend of mine and she had to get all four wisdom teeth removed. I only have one wisdom tooth - maybe another one is coming? sad

Get to a doctor immediately.

The probability of it being lockjaw (tetanus) is remote, but you need to have it checked out.

The first symptoms typically appear within four to 25 days after infection. At the outset, you'll be troubled by painful muscle stiffness and spasms in the jaw and neck (from which the disease derives its name). Gradually, the back, chest, abdomen, and limbs also become affected. High fever, convulsions, restlessness, difficulty swallowing, fever, sore throat, chills, and extreme pain may eventually join the initial symptoms.

I haven't got any puncture wounds hmm

Well good, it's not tetanus then. Personally, I'd still go to a doctor though.
Hope it clears up soon.

comfort it's awful when you are a grown up and you fall down and you think "I am too old to cry, but it HURTS!" and it does feel better after a bit of a cry, actually, (I can't if it happens to me and the kids are watching, it really worries them, although it does bring out the considerate side of them and they go and get anthing I might need razz )

Jaw conditions: Temporomandibular disorders are conditions in which the temporomandibular joint (the jaw) is damaged and/or the muscles used for chewing and talking become stressed, causing pain. The condition may be the result of a number of factors, such as an injury to the jaw or joint misalignment, and may give rise to a variety of symptoms, most commonly pain in the jaw, face, and/or neck muscles. Physicians reach a diagnosis by listening to the patient's description of the symptoms and by performing a simple examination of the facial muscles and the temporomandibular joint.

sad hope it's not arthritis

Sometimes, I somehow sleep in an awkward position and the very same thing happens to me. Actually, I think the odd position is that I only ever sleep on my stomach, at which point every now and then, my face sort of gets lined up on the edge of the bed.

Anyway, makes for quite a painful day the next day.
