You are right, it is a stretch to say cave paintings are art, its just merly our interpretation today 
That said, I do think art itself is just a form of simple communication (in essence Synthia )
We have all done it, played the one you care for a song, rather than say the words yourself, stared at a picture, and for whatever reason a question you had, totally unrelated to the picture, seems to have an answer. Art is an enigma, and should not be dispelled, just as ghost, aliens, the connection of the minds of twins, the healing power of swimming with dolphins etc etc, with out further investigation We are unique in our approach to life, and in many ways we are not. This is what the human race is about. Are we unique, or are we not..... Its been good chatting with you guys, but I gotta go eat
