I totally agree with the message that people should not mistreat
animals or keep them for a certain use and dispose of them once
they fail to meet the "required" standards of what these people
consider a worthy standard to keep investing time/love in these
animals.

However, I don't agree with all the content of the flash file.

The dogs shown in this film are not family dogs as the clip has
you believe. They were not intended to be family dogs but folks
have turned them into such.

You can't really blame the animal for snapping or even killing
someone if you know the danger beforehand and accept that this
is a very powerful animal that could kill a grown cow let alone
your 4 month old baby.

Some people are just completely fucked in the head, keeping a
dog like that with small children. If you're willing to take
the risk as an adult, fine, but to subject children to your own
choice like that is very bad judgement imo.

Furthermore, I don't care who the hell you are and how lovely
your pitbull has been up until now, I'd still prefer it if you
keep him/her on a leash when walking down the street so that I
won't have to piss myself again when I'm walking down there
with my small 22 pound dog and your musclemachine follows us at
the heal for 10 minutes sniffing and grunting and growling like
mad.

I'm not saying don't have these dogs, they're fine, by all means
but please think before you get one and take care of it and the
people you subject to it's presence.

People always say "oh but he's lovely", "oh but he's never even
growled in all his 8 years of being with us", "oh but he sleeps
next to our newborn". blabla. Just reminds me of the story about
that old man in the animal sanctuary in Africa who had raised a
little lion and walked it to a slope to watch the sunset with it
every day for years and years. Until one day the man did not come
back and the lion just ate him.

Animals are animals, not people and don't reason the same way we
do.

I don't care what you say, as long as you've got an animal on a
leash that could kill my dog, me and you at the same time, I'd
be very appreciative if you keep it as far away from me as may
be humanly possible. That's not ignorance, that's selfpreservation.

I totally agree with what you are saying, Its not Bad Dogs its Bad owners, my dogs were savaged by a staffy last year and i nearly lost one of them, still the guy walks around with his dogs off the leash, apparently in Scotland there is NO leash law????? Some dogs just do not like other dogs the simple answer is to leash them until you get to a place where no other dogs are.....

I am surprised (or maybe not really ) to see you take this stance. It would seem more logical, and easier to enforce a tighter control on dog licensing. Remove the need to breed and the dogs popularity will wane, and with it the breed.

lol i'm full of surprises!

in this particular case, i doubt that dog licensing efforts would do much good. many who breed, own and fight these dogs don't give a rat's ass about licensing ordinances. and as long as there is money to be made, people will breed.

my concerns are also for the many dogs of these breeds who are euthanized - our local animal shelter does not adopt out any fighting breeds that come in, so they are killed. fortunately (relatively speaking), they have humane euthanasia practices, but other shelters in the area still gas their unwanted animals in very outdated gas chambers. it's not fair to create a life just to have it killed later. peace

I just wanted to add my agreement to all Irresistible's comments above. There really is no need to breed pitbulls - I think it's irresponsible. I don't think I can add anything to the comments that IB's written already. Totally spot on.

boxed I'm afraid to watch. I HATE to see animals be mistreated in any way, it pisses me off and makes me want to find the offender and smack the hell out of them.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

nod

I wish I had more stomach to watch things like this because I think it's important to be well-informed, but I had to stop watching TV reports on animal cruelty a few years back because it causes me to get depressed; I can't stop thinking about the things I see and things just spiral, so now I have to leave the room or change channels.

I do think all the threads Doggone has created have raised important issues though, and I'm ok to discuss them but I just can't watch it happening.
