Pair of Ruby Slippers stolen

'On-screen'.... they had the magic to transport the person wearing them anywhere their heart desired.
But this past weekend, a pair of ruby slippers from 'The Wizard of Oz' were powerless against a thief who stole them from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids.
They were one of the four existing pairs of ruby slippers Judy Garland wore in "The Wizard of Oz."
Grand Rapids Police Chief Leigh Serfling said the slippers were stolen Saturday night or early Sunday morning. He says someone entered the museum through a broken window and took the slippers from a small display case.
Children's Discovery Museum director John Kelsch said the slippers belong to a Los Angeles man who loaned them to the museum for ten weeks this summer. The slippers were insured for $1million.
The children's museum houses the Judy Garland museum, which displayed the same pair of slippers last year. Garland was born in Grand Rapids in 1922.
