I just watched Sleeping beauty

I just watched this lil' forgotten disney film again.

Iam a huge fan of western animation, and it would be a dream to direct one of these movies.

This film is severely lacking in even a passable script (which was all that was needed) and most importantly, exiting scenes and characters.

The look is very interesting though. The human movement is superb and the film was very expensive and was a bomb financially.

The villian Malevicent is superb though. I wish she had more scenes. And the opening and climax of the movie is superb also.

A tour de force in artistic animation though. Which is very odd for disney.

Many early Disney films were more about the beauty of the art and the technology of the animation rather than the story line.

I miss the beautiful artwork from older Disney films.

And Maleficent rocks!

Cool. I dont think this film is really that well known. Theres so many disney films now.

Yesh maleficent is spot on for a good villian. Her character design is fantastic. Iam sure a few drag queens stole her look from time to time. lol

Sleeping Beauty is by far my fave Disney movie. The aesthetic is SO different than most of their films, even of that time. I love the story, I love the music. It makes me happy. It's the only animated Disney film I own.

Iam glad u like it.

It is obviously more catered to females then males (infact, most of the film doesn't involve any males at all), but it does stand out form their other many, many films.

I only just knew that disney used some of the ballet music for the film. Like the tune "once upon a dream". The words are obviously disney, but the music is from the ballet. Iam sure minni g has danced to it.

Iam glad that the org has some appreciation of animation.

It is beutiful, the whole thing.

Particually the forest scene when they sing "once upon the dream".

Even the score is gothic, as is the look.

Disney used to put so much effort and heart into their movies. The results were beautiful and often visually stunning. What do they have now? Crappy sequels ad infinitum. The company has been losing, rather than making, money these past few years and it's blaming the success of CGI movies like Shrek. I wonder why it hasn't occurred to them that no one goes to see theri new movies because we already know they'll fucking suck.

Lilo and Stitch? Please. What's next? Lilo and Stitch 2?

Oh wait. neutral

Yeah disney are the worst ever since they started making moive in 1937 with snow white.

Disney has gone through really shit days, and I really hope they go back to doing proper 2d animation which appeals to all ages instead of just little kids

Computer animation killed the 2d animation. Disneys rather good "treasure planet" bombed. They gave up after that.

Western animation really is not moving forward at all. Computer animated cartoons so far are just boring "burp" humour full of self knowing shit and simplistic movie references all the time. The seriousness is gone. The art is gone.

nod

The last Disney movie I bothered to go see in the theatre was "Home on the Range". It was overly simple and boring to the point I nodded off a few times and didn't feel like I'd missed anything.

I didn't dare even see "home on the range". It looked dreadful. Not that it should matter, but the animation looked apalling too. The ducktales movie was animated 2x better then that. (remember that anyone?)

It was! Worst 7 bucks I ever spent. Normally I can find one or two good things about even the worst movies, but not this one. It even has a boob joke from a cow! (voiced by Roseanne Barr, an appropriate choice. wink ) Poorly animated too.

Don't recall the ducktales movie. The cartoon was pretty nifty though. nod

"life is like a hurricane, here in duckberg...." I love that theme tune. Use to sing it all the time around school.
Whoever wrote those disney theme songs is a genius

I still got my ancient VHS copy. For a movie based on a 25 min series, it wasn't half bad
