Washington Square Hotel (near NYU and the West Village, and wrecka stows! )
www.wshotel.com "Experience the quintessential trade-off of a resident New Yorker: location vs. space. Shoebox rooms at the only hotel in the Village, but in return, you're within walking distance of Washington Square Park, which beats the sleaze of Times Square any day." when i lived in NYC, i had a friend stay here while she came to visit, and i got to hang out in the hotel and check it out. it's nice! true, it's a little small, but the lobby is beautiful, and as soon as you walk out the door, you're right in the middle of about 1,001 cool places in greenwich village, including lots of public transportation options.

I'm going to add this in the top post, but...here's what I suggest so far
Friday 24th Lunch somewhere and then either a Hudson Cruise or the Saten Island Ferry that evening go for dinner somewhere then to the Pyramid Club Saturday 25th Anxy's wrecka stow tour of Greenwich Village Azucar Cuban Restaurant for dinner and a dance that night Sunday 26th Sunday Brunch at The Blue Note Jazz Cafe...“East Meets West” features collaborations between American and Japanese jazz artists, based both in the U.S. and Japan. The series is based on “East Comes West,” a Monday night series the Blue Note held fifteen years ago, which introduced Japanese musicians to the New York jazz scene. Due to its success, the Blue Note decided expand the concept, by adding American and U.S.-based Japanese artists, and making it a Sunday brunch. Show times are every Sunday at 12:30PM & 2:30PM. Brunch is served from 11:30AM-4:00PM. $19.50 includes, brunch, the show and a drink. Monday 27th am not sure whether people can still be around for the Monday but for those that can... suggestions please!!

Natisse said: Saturday 25th Anxy's wrecka stow tour of Greenwich Village Azucar Cuban Restaurant for dinner and a dance that night i'll have to start mapping that one out well in advance! i'm thinking we'll start out at Other Music on lafayette and 4th, then move on to st. marks place for some cheepo used wrecka stow bin digging (and a bit of sightseeing, as this is where warhol's "happenings" with the velvet underground used to take place, and it was also home to klaus nomi and joey ramone), then head on over to the west village to scour out some "special imports" and then have some of the city's best falafels at ali baba's on macdougal (right across from the legendary Cafe Whaa (sp?) ). any additions to this?

FYI I was just at St. Mark's last night looking for "imports." Joe's CDs (on the north side of the street--they always have tables of cassettes/videos on the sidewalk) is MOVING to 96 Christopher Street (near Bleeker) as of September 30. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

SOUNDS on st. marks, however, rocks my socks!

I have had pretty good luck at Sounds with the official releases, but no imports. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I have had pretty good luck at Sounds with the official releases, but no imports. the only imports i've ever gotten at sounds were some joan jett CDs that joan dropped off herself! i mainly would go to sounds to get new releases for 9.99. they were always good for that. there are other places i'll go for bootleggage, which i'm not gonna name in the forums, but we might end up visiting 'em during the NYC org invasion next spring....
