Gangsta..."That is straight Gangsta"...meaning your shit is "hard" and respected in the hood for what it worth.

Pimpin....Same connotation as above, but slightly less abrasive...giving respect and kudos hood style.

Blood...only to be used by "Bloods"....PERIOD....say it and not be affiliated...and get a beat down...FOR REAL!

Cuz....used to be a safe acknowledgement of our brethren, but now has its own connotation with the Bloods to recognize a fellow gangbanger. Again...say it in the wrong territory...and catch hell!

Wife Beater....simply implies and perpetuates the stereotype that "Trailer Trash" whites wore this shirt and attached it to the stigma that they beat their wives in this garb.

But the problem I have with Gangsta and pimpin is the negative origins with it. You got little boys saying they're pimpin this little girl and they're gangsta when they walk and dress a certain way. But they ain't doing nothing but act the fool and further perpetuating the stereotype alot of people have about the Hip Hop community.

I hope I'm getting my point across about clearly.

You, my sista, are preaching to the Choir...I feel you.

Talk to the Television Execs...the Media Execs...that put this shit on the airwaves and radio! It is all part of the plan to further the stagnat minds that either live or rely on this lifestyle. It has totally encompassed the inner city youth as most of my students only wanted to be an athlete or rapper. It is all due to the OVER GLAMOURIZATION of the industry that is only in place to keep them from expanding their own horizons.

You got television shows like Pimp my Ride...MTV Cribs....the ghetto lifestyles of the rich and ridiculous! It sickens me to witness, but as I recognize it, so do all that are in my midst. I will not sit still....ever!

Yes, but english that is taught in schools is written. Its not speech. Even I write differently from the way I speak.

Ice-T thinks it is good that white kids can get into black culture, because it will help them be a new generation that will reject the racism of their parents.

White folks should not say nigger, unless they use it in context. Slang words are a natural part of youth culture. It passes, kids grow up.

Nigger should not be said period...i don't care if it's said as "nigga" either. People may say, "Oh its just a word", but there is hurt and pain and harshness behind that word or any derogatory word against any race. I don't understand how my own (Black) people would allow a word that so many people fought for to not use get to be how it is now. You got people making stipulations and rules on when to say and not when to say it. Come on people wake up!! And don't get mad when white people use it...because you allowed it by using it yourself!

No offense to u freaky hug...I am all for white kids (as well as other races) being into the black culture. But they also have to understand the reason of the culture, why it all started, where it came from, and what it was all about. Because it definitely didn't begin with money, guns, and whores.

In Canada, the majority of First Nations youth identify more strongly with American black culture (or what they perceive it to be) than with their own Canadian Native culture.

Nothing's weirder, or sadder, than hearing a Native kid refer to another Native kid as Nigger -and mean it. neutral

It's really not. You like the word 'nigga'? No? But, has it ever passed your lips? Ever say 'gangsta'? Well some of those words listed in the initial post I've said for sure and I'm not about to apologise for it since though I couldn't possibly recall now the context in which they were said, I trust my intentions and judgment. Sure, I can think of better words to say, which is exactly why in my post I said how rarely I use them, but there have, I'm sure, been contexts in which some of the words I've felt it appropriate to use (as is my want). Of course, I included the word 'nigga' in that list too (since it's the hardest, most controversial and thus best demonstrates my point that no word is off-limits per se) and predictably that was the one that was zoomed in on, it seems at the exclusion of all other words in my post

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? YOu drop the "n" bomb? I'm assuming you are not of the persuaion?

Ugh! There's a difference between saying you 'do' and saying you 'can'. Alright, if it'll satisfy you, let me think a while. The last time I recall using the word 'nigga' when not just reading it aloud here or referring to someone else using it was, I think, in a response to JoeyCoco some months back when I said 'nigga please' and I believe I added a rolleyes emoticon. Joey had previously posted some forum spam picture with those words on it, hence my use of it. I guess I only have myself to blame for having to sit here and type all of this.

For the record, I'll say whatever the fuck I want.

Do I usually say 'fuck' much on p.org or indeed anywhere? No, so I probably shouldn't have used it here tendentiously. Makes people get upset very easily about things they wouldn't otherwise. Damn words! Somebody should just ban some of them.

In short, get over it, beyotch.

Typical Fauxie language, racist scoundrel that he is. mad

Racist scoundrel why? Because he won't go on record ruling out future use on his behalf of a bunch of words. Actual actions, availability to exercise judgment and the importance of intentions are all irrelevant in the face of such utter contemptible horror!

Fauxie, I'm not sure what happened to cause your "Aren't you sick of it" thread but it's interesting to me that you'll use a word like that w/o giving a fuck then turn around & get agro when you're confronted (which I'm guessing you were) w/ issues of Black & White racism. That's a charged word - if you use it you WILL elicit a response from some folks so be ready for that, that's all I'm saying.

I'm Black & we've never had beef, right? So I'm not coming @ you wrong or blaming you for anyone's past sins, I'm making an oh so gentle observation about your one sided participation on what can be a sensitive issue for many many people.

There was no obvious, recent cause for that thread. It popped into my mind, though from where I'm not quite sure. Must've been sparked by something. Anyhow, I explain about using those words in my previous post. Forgive the sarcasm if possible. I'm awful company right now and can't seem to tolerate anyone or anything. But I digress. I don't walk around spouting those words at every opportunity! I never said I did. So what did I do? I stated that I can say whatever I want and that no words are off-limits per se (and I noted that I have used some of those words in some contexts before and that I just rely on my judgment and trust my intentions). Owing to my crabby, aggressive nature of late I tendentiously added the word 'fuck' so that my sentence became 'I'll say whatever the fuck I want'. That was purely mischevious as it makes a normal sentence inflammatory. Ultimately it's not important since the core of what I was saying is the same. I just needed to better clarify that I don't go around saying 'nigga' to people willy-nilly if indeed at all, but then you knew that anyway. 'Nigga' is only one word, and not even one of those listed in this thread's original post, but it was zoomed in on, and I brought it up in my post too. It's just, as you say, a very charged word, so it inevitably came up. There was definitely some creative reading going there though! So what's really left?

For the record, I'll say whatever the fuck I want. I don't mind saying 'pimp', 'gangsta', 'nigga' or whatever should the situation dictate that I wish to.

'Should' doesn't allow for anything more than choice here. It doesn't anywhere suggest whether that wish has ever existed (and if it has to what extent and how exactly), and that leap can't justifiably be made by the reader, although I can understand why it might be.

In conclusion, there was really no issue there at all. Just me going through a deep funk right now, a poorly explained (and unelaborated) conceit and a little creative reading. Strip away my foul attitude from the post and you're left with someone saying as per their principals they won't limit their vocabulary from the get-go but rather they'll trust their judgment and intentions. I hope that makes sense. I've already written a fair bit without this being understood so I'm clearly doing something wrong! lol

I've done that a lot of late and I'm starting to tire of myself.

Here is why I think that no White person has the priveledge of using the "N" bomb. First of all, it is a word dating back so far to denote laziness and stupidity by Whites. What we see today is a switch in the "power" ofthe word. It has become a slang word that some Blacks use in speech. It's like taking some of that power and reversing it. So as an individual of the Caucasion persuasion, I feel it is not my place to use it being the historical context of the word.

See, my White brethren and sistren don't understand the concept of perception of priveledge. Because of my skin color no matter how "hard" life is, try doing that with your life and add a different color to your skin (OK, this is getting too deep). It's so hard a lot of times for my brethren and sistren to sit down and think of these concpts all though they argue by saying "some of my best friends are black". So you see, the slang, derived from a harsh word will never come from my lips. It's a word that CANNOT have ownership of this side of the fence.

Dude, just saying that you don't say it but reserve the right to say it denotes insensitivity to the issue.

Speaking of reversal of power, I think that it is so intelligent to see Dirty South rap artists wearing rebel flags on belt buckles, clothes, etc. The rebel flag, which denotes serious racism is reversed. Although the 13 different versions of the flag denotes Southern pride, the fact that Lil Jon, Scrappy, and so forth wear it takes that symbol and reverses it. There hasn't been anything so interesting as this in popular music since punk reversing the swastika.

No, it doesn't. It just, in hindsight, foolishly and inappropriately pokes at something slightly off-topic that's apparently of the propensity to confuse. smile

I must admit though, I may seriously consider drawing the line at the phrases 'the 'N' bomb' or 'the 'N' word' out of sheer contempt for the absurdity of them. Of course, I jest. If you like to use those terms, go ahead. I'm talking about 'nigga' and 'nigger'. Those are terms that have long been used for black people. Forgive me if I walk instead of tip-toe. That does my calves in after a while.

I'm not too sure about this whole 'reversing' thing though, or rather I'm undecided. I won't tell people what they should do. If that is empowering for some then I'm all for it, I guess. These words are certainly a rather foul and regretable part of history that can make you question the very intentions of humankind as a whole. However, they are out there now. There's no getting them back, so let's at least be adult about it and not skirt around things. I can't imagine I'll be walking up to a black person and calling them 'nigger' any time soon, but the word exists and so it'll have an existence of some sort no matter what you wish for. So what is desirable? Erasing the word from existence is impossible. When someone says 'nigger' it'll always mean a black person. When someone says black person 'nigger' will always be a footnote somewhere. What are we to do with these words and all these issues tied in there with them? I wouldn't like to take on that responsibility and say. That is beyond me and I have no solutions I'm afraid. It's easier for me to pass over them in favour of concentrating on actions. Forgive me if I do this. You could be a 'nigger', 'queer', 'dyke', 'chinkychong' or whatever, but in the end I just want us to be good to each other. I can't help thinking we've greater problems than some emotive words, albeit charged ones.

I apologise if I've been crude and aggressive on this thread. I know it's not anything like a valid excuse but I really have been on the ropes with something the last few days, although I'm still figuring out what, and while the core of my responses have been something close to what I've wanted to convey, the delivery has been lacking in the consideration and respect people deserve. I hope you understand. I barely feel in control of myself, and I know, then, that my being here may seem odd, but unfortunately I seem to be addicted to this damn website no matter how confused and foul my countenance!!! lol
