School offers crash soccer course for women


BERLIN (Reuters) - A German adult education center is offering a women-only crash course on the basics of soccer to prepare them for next year's World Cup.


The Training Center in the southern city of Nuremberg promises those who enroll in the course, entitled "Understand Soccer -- Women Want to Know Now!," an overview of the game's rules and language, as well as a potted history of some of the soccer's leading players.

Nuremberg will be one of the 12 host cities for World Cup matches in 2006 and was also a venue for Confederations Cup matches in June 2005.

"Ever wonder why men love soccer so much?" the school's website asks. "Do you want to know why referees call off-sides? With nothing but the World Cup on the airwaves, you now have the chance to understand what everyone's talking about."

The course, taught by two women, includes an excursion to a Bundesliga match.

crash course, huh? hmm. sounds time-consuming. why not just fake it? i mean how hard could it be? me, i'd just prepare a few handy phrases like: "look at the bloke shoot the ball!" "it's a hole in one!" "he's scored a touchdown!" "it's a homerun for the home team!" "the eight ball is nowhere in sight"

then i'd just mingle with the other sports fans until the season ended

Pretty good the first one was a bit of a get myself sorted one and then had another meeting this monday and really got back on the pace. I am out next wednesday too and this is the one I have been really looking forward too.
I am a bit sore still as the docs now saw I have 2 broken ribs but they can do nothing, I will just have to try and stay on this tieme!!!

Interestingly, in 1998 it was France who invented football, in 2002 at the beginning of the world cup tournament it was allegedly first played in Japan, but by the end of the tournament it was discovered that it was actually invented by Brazil.

No doubt next year they'll discover that it was really invented by Germany.

In non-world-cup years it seems to have been invented variously by Romans, Aztec Indians, or China.

But we all know that the modern game of football is an English invention.
Only the English could invent a game with rules that even they can't explain.
