I get about 300 miles per tank. I usually fill up at the quarter of a tank mark, and right now that costs me about $20.

Usually, if I'm going to go to Dayton or summat to meet my brother, I make different arrangements, such that he'll meet me midways or so so it saves me money. Pitiful, isn't it?

But I'm just a peon with a poor paying job who works with tourists.

I have cut back my driving as much as possible but I have been doing that for some time now. I am still driving my little truck that gets good gas mileage. Ppl keep asking me when I am going to trade it in and I say when I can afford the gas on something new. Actually, I am saving up for a Hybrid so for now my little truck is fine.
I think we should be asked to conserve here in America but that will NEVER happen while we have an OIL/WAR president in office.
The gas is $2.44 where I live, last week I paid $2.26 - I guess they will keep raising it as long as we keep spending the money for it.
We were going to drive to PA next week for a wedding but found that it was cheaper to fly.
Does anyone have some good ideas on conservation?
We could all use some pointers!

Over here in the UK I watch Fox News on Sky Satelite and I always see reports of the rising gas prices. Anyway, when my family and I used 2 live in the USA(1993-2001), gas prices were moreorless under $1 a gallon, now I see that its almost $3 a gallon!!!shocked shocked

What I wanna know is, how have these high gas prices affected U?? Have u had 2 make any changes, large or small, in your way of living 2 accommodate the rising prices??? Are u guys, still making long trips or have u had 2 cut down??

The reason I ask is that we are returning back 2 the USA 2 live in about 3 months time!!

YOURE GOING BACK TO THE USA??? YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID!!!! YOUVE KEPT THAT ONE QUIET!!! lol lol lol

its about $2:47 a gallon - last time i filled up my 6 litre V8 Avalanche, ahhhhh feel the power. I just do a quick comparison - UK price to US price when i go to fill up and smile. It costs about GBP 20.00 to fill my tank. I know the last time i filled my Audi A6 in the UK it was GBP 50.00. And that was three years ago. God knows how much it would cost now!!!
Even though the pump has a sign saying do not top off - i ALWAYS do, because i can afford to. I think if i lived in the UK i would put a brick in my tank the way a lot of people do in their toilet's tank when there is a drought on (every year) lol lol
So the UK is about a pound per litre now??? lol
I saw on Top Gear that you can run a deisel on used vegetable oil with a dash of white spirit added - 6p per litre - now thats is where you should be looking to fill up - at the local chip shop!!!

Hmmmmm is this a trick question??
When you say those who cant afford to - do you mean people in the UK who are
paying through the nose or just people who dont have enough money in general?

A few idea's for those who cannot afford to

Drive away quickly without paying
Buy a car with a smaller engine and fuel tank
Get a better paying job (or in Roz's case get A job)
Cycle
Buy a diesel and run it on vegetable oil (it is possible - it was on Episode 1 of "new" Top Gear
Stay home and dont travel anywhere

One of those should work!!!
smile
