Graveyard Shift Workers Appreciation Thread I don't know how the hell you people do it, working when everyone else is sleeping.
I've been doing it for a week and I'm probably going to have to do it for another week, because where I work needed coverage until they get a new graveyard shift proofreader...and the hours are jacking me way up. Seriously, if I don't quit working these hours soon, I'm gonna start dressing up in a dirty Body Glove and doing The Hustle on the street corner in front of a gas station. It's not for me and I hope my little coverage shift ends soon, but for those of you who work these hours and still can find a way to have a life, for goodness' sake, I SALUTE YOU.

I wholeheartedly agree. I worked for a short time doing a graveyard shift in a factory. A couple of months was enough for me. It left me all discombobulated.

I did it for 6 months.
I ended up having to goto mental health becuaes I couldn't sleep during the day and it was affected my emotional state of being. Ofcourse, it lead to a chain of events that turned me from a devout atheist to a buddhist. So, I guess the graveyard shift was pretty cool.

Somehow I suspect it was employment in general that left you feeling so awful.

They say people who work those hours long enough become translucent from a lack of sunlight.

So, I guess the graveyard shift was pretty cool. it's starting to make me pretty goofy. i don't know if it's affecting me emotionally, but it's fucking up the way i perceive things. i'm getting clumsier. i broke a bowl and a glass yesterday while i was washing dishes. that's not cool. on the way to work, i thought i was almost at the office, but when i looked out the window of the bus a second time, i realized i wasn't even out of my neighborhood yet. i'll probably see giant cockroaches with talking pootieholes next... also, i don't like that when i'm not at work, all my spare time is devoted to trying to catch up on sleep. and i'm too tired to work out. i hate that. i think it takes a very unique person to be able to work these hours, and i ain't THAT unique.

It's horrible. Your body stops producing certain chemicals that regulate metabolism correctly. You'll gain weight. You'll feel strange. Even when you adjust, it's different from being on day shift. My favorite shift is actually swings (noon to midnight).

I remember working 4pm until midnight and I used to enjoy jumping in the car at the end of the shift and driving home listening to music. I found it to be a real release driving at that time of night with very little traffic about. Being asleep by 1am you can be up by 9am and have quite a bit of time on your hands.

The cool thing about that shift is that you can sleep in. And I went to the gym before work so I feel refreshed before work. Normally, on day shift (9 am till 5 PM or whatnot), people don't get enough sleep.

Well I guess it's because if you get home at 6pm or whatever, by the time you've had dinner you really only have a couple of hours to yourself. You end up staying up late on the net or watching TV trying to make something of the day. This is a fun conversation!

you know, you should write greeting cards. They're also at a higher risk for Osteoporosis, 'cuz they're not getting enough vitamin D, because the sun is one of the main sources for it.
