I have used anti depressents but not for quite a while now

it's not a high you tend to experience it's a numbness

no real bad downs but no ups either really should just be a short term soloution followed by sorting out whats the matter making you feel the way you do.

i would describe the effect as leveling

Very true lil popstar.

I have taken Prozac and Cipralex before. It doesn't really make you high at all. In fact it kind of does numb your feelings. You no longer get upset by things or cry so much but you also don't laugh - that's the thing I missed most.

When you've really hit rock-bottom and can't scrape yourself up, then they are good to let your brain rest and level out your emotions. After a while though you need to look at whats really making you depressed. I still have no idea what exactly made me depressed. I think I'm just a naturally anxious person and that has its toll on you.

I've been on Paxil for about two years....it doesn't give me any sort of a high, it just calms me down and helps me to feel more comfortable, especially in social situations. No negative side effects except the times when I miss a couple days - then it's hell! Paxil withdrawls are HORRIBLE!!!!

nod the side effects from coming off anti-depressants quickly are bloody awful!!

That u are on depression medicine.

What are the effects of it?

Do u feel a high feeling or is it just a calming thing?

Did u notice the effects right away?

Do u readily admit it to people or is it something u keep to yourself?

wave I am. It helps me avoid the highs and lows of mood swings, it just levels the serotonin levels out. woot! It took about a few weeks for it to take effect, it's common for the symptoms to get worse at first, until the body adjusts.

I obviously don't have a problem with talking about it, or I wouldn't have posted here rolleyes

I disagree with you there, unless you were given the wrong dosage

The absolute truth:

They tried to put me on Prozac when it first came out, but it acted like a truth serum. I couldn't tell a lie. Someone would ask if I liked their dress, hair, anything and I'd tell them. "Looks like shit to me." Ooops.

So that was my experience with it. Now I use Prince. hehehehehe

And several other musicians to cure my lows.

That's bugger all, K. I could go a lot further regarding how ludircous and damaging the molecular stucture of most prescription drugs are to the human genome, both long and short term, but I'd be lambasted and derided by those who hang their sanity on the hooks of these fucking evil wee daft creations of men in white coats who, trust me, don't give a fuck about their raping of the human psyche.

I think everyone reacts to medication differently and quite a lot of people on this thread have said that they felt numb while taking antidepressants. I was prescribed the lowest dosage of cipralex (10mg) by a psychotherapist and they did a great job in helping to level out my emotions but after a while I did notice that I didn't laugh as much as I used to. I've off them now for over a year, have had quite a lot of stressful issues in terms of money, moving house and writing up my PhD and I'm happy to say I haven't crumbled yet!! So all in all I'm quite happy with my treatment.

Teacher, I just noticed too that you said that antidepresants helped to overcome the highs and lows of your moodswings. Surely that means it took the edge of some good feelings as well as some bad??? Maybe not, because as I said different people will react differently to the same medication just as the same person will react differently to different types of medication.
