NEW YORK (AP) — Time to face the facts: Dave Chappelle's hit Comedy Central series isn't coming back, says one of its stars. "Chappelle's Show is over, man. Done," comic Charlie Murphy told TV Guide. "It took me a long time to be able to say those words, but I can say it pretty easy now, because it's the truth."
Chappelle's sudden "spiritual retreat" to South Africa on the eve of his show's third season has left the series in limbo since May. About half of a new season had been filmed before Chappelle left, Murphy said.

"I'm disappointed it ended the way it did, but I'm not angry with anybody," he said. "Chappelle's Show was like the Tupac of TV shows. It came out, it got everybody's attention, it was a bright shining star, but it burned out and for some strange reason, it burned out quick."

Comedy Central has always said the door is open for Chappelle to return, spokeswoman Aileen Budow said Wednesday.

Network chief Doug Herzog met with Chappelle on June 3, but that has been their last communication, she said.

Murphy, the older brother of comic Eddie Murphy, said his two seasons with Chappelle made him a star.

"Now I can go out and do stand-up," he said. "I'm getting movie offers. It's off the hook. Me getting to the next level or whatever's going to happen is going to come from the next things I do, but Chappelle's Show served its purpose and I'll always be grateful."

Old news. Well, at least the first two seasons are on DVD, and hopefully the portion of the 3rd season that that they managed to get done will make it on DVD.

ya'll must haven't been reading or saw his interview. With that new contract signing came a lot of new demands that weren't & stipulations (think Prince & Warner Bros) that didn't sit right with Dave.

yes thats correct. I haven't heard comedy central saying that they are doing anything about it at the moment, but if this is official, you know we will be hearing about lawsuits very soon. I mean it is possible that they didn't give him money until after the season was complete, but i don't think this is likely. Isn't this a similar case to when music artists are paid in advance for an album that isn't even done yet? I mean it is another possiblity that they paid him if not all but some of the money until the season was completed...and as we are seeing now, the season isn't complete which is a problem...

i'm sure there was an advance given and i'm sure he'll be returning it. dave's probably made a bit of cash from the dvd sales and he's probably living quite comfortably without needing another season of chappelle's show.

if this is all true, he did the right thing by sticking by what he believed in. yeah, i'll miss the jokes and the laughs. big deal. we'll find them elsewhere. he's not the last living comic on earth. best of luck to the guy, his family, and their future endeavors.

This is just a rumor, but i heard he was trying to get a contract with some of the pay channels so he could strech out a bit more and he also got to keep the dough. Now before ya'll start this is what i heard, but it was from someone "in the industry".
