$2.58
Hey, that much lauded energy bill that Congress just passed isn't going to help gas prices. Not to mention that there is not an emphasis on renewable technology and oil companies that are enjoying record profits were granted upwards of 10 billion in tax cuts. Just thought I'd put some reality on the gas pump . [Edited 8/8/05 12:42pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Big Oil Disinformation
The following e-mail is circulating on the Internet now. Read our comments following this e-mail below. The comparison of milk or Ice Tea to the cost of gasoline is just ludicrous, and the suggestion that we are getting a "good deal" on gasoline because "milk costs $12.72 per gallon" is absurd, but we'll let you decide. ** AN APPLES TO APPLES COMPARISON OF GAS PRICES ** You think a gallon of gasoline is expensive? * Diet Snapple 16oz for $1.29 equals $10.32 per gallon * Lipton Ice Tea 16oz for $1.19 equals $ 9.52 per gallon * Gatorade 20oz for $1.59 equals $ 10.17 per gallon * Pint of milk 16oz for $1.59 equals $12.72 per gallon * And this is the REAL KICKER..... Evian water 9oz for $1.49 equals $ 21.19 per gallon ... $21.19 FOR WATER!! You get the idea?? So next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on milk, or ice tea!!! Okay, let's break the above statements down logically … 1) "Diet Snapple 16oz for $1.29 equals $10.32 per gallon " This may be true, but gasoline is not sold in teeny-weeny little bottles shipped all the way from New Jersey by truck. Ninety percent of California's oil comes from the West Coast. In addition, the retail markup on a bottle of Snapple is likely 65¢ per bottle or more. Gasoline retailers make about 5 to 15¢ per gallon -- if they are lucky. 2) "Lipton Ice Tea 16oz for $1.19 equals $ 9.52 per gallon" UCAN urges drivers to travel to various gas stations around town and notice the difference in prices for soft drinks. You will notice that at every station the soft drinks are the same price, yet the gasoline is almost always a different price. The reason for this is that pricing managers at California refineries set different prices for gasoline depending on the location of the station. The dealer has no control over the wholesale price he or she pays. If the Gasoline price manager sees that a dealer is making 20¢ per gallon on gas, they will increase the dealer's wholesale price. To our knowledge, Lipton Tea has never set different prices for its beverages depending on the location of a retail outlet. That's because Lipton actually competes with other brands of tea, such as Snapple (see point #1). 3) "Gatorade 20oz for $1.59 equals $ 10.17 per gallon" If the middle-eastern "Gatorade Cartel" cut back production by a few million barrels a day, what do you think would happen to the U.S. economy? Would Gatorade starved politicians be DEMANDING that President Clinton tap into the "Strategic Gatorade Reserve?" Would athletes run dangerously short on crucial electrolytes, calling a halt to major sporting events? The thought is mind-boggling. 4) "Pint of milk 16oz for $1.59 equals $12.72 per gallon" How dumb do they think we are? (Answer: really dumb). First, when was the last time you paid $12.72 for a gallon of milk! We think $2.99 a gallon is too high! But keep in mind, the state artificially inflates the price of milk through a complex price-setting regulatory process. Perhaps the gas companies want to agree to state price-setting. 5) "Evian water 9oz for $1.49 equals $ 21.19 per gallon ... $21.19 FOR WATER!!" Perhaps the authors of this dubious comparison never noticed that you can buy "Glacier" water from reverse osmosis machines located outside of most groceries for approximately $.30 per gallon, or about 1/5th the cost of a gallon of gasoline. By the way, Evian is "naive" spelled backwards. FINAL POINT: The fact is, none of the liquids mentioned in the above piece of propaganda are essential commodities. And they are sold in small increments through an expensive distribution process. What the oil companies are good at is creating "shortages" in times of plenty. There is no shortage of gasoline. Only one thing sets the price of gas: Oil Company Pricing Managers. The distribution system for gasoline in California is controlled by a handful of refiners. If they wanted to sell gas at $1.20 per gallon, they could do it tomorrow without having to fear loss of market share. And for those who are content to blame OPEC, consider this: last year at this time OPEC oil was priced at a 20-year low, yet California's gasoline was at the highest price ever since the 1990 Persian Gulf War. During the last round of shortages, the California oil industry was quick to explain the high prices by saying that OPEC oil prices do not impact California refineries or West Coast gas prices. For those you who still think gas is a great deal compared to Gatorade, we invite you to click here for a VERY SPECIAL LIMITED TIME OFFER! you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

No wonder I don't go on as many road trips as I used to....gas is just too high now. I love getting gas and seeing how much the other person got that was there before me.....one person paid $76.00 I'd die if it took that much to fill my vehicle. That's why I kinda feel for those driving big SUVs at this time.....shoulda got a Corolla. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)
