Darren Aronofsky's 'The Fountain'

Darren Aronofsky's (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) new movie 'The Fountain' is definitely on - shooting commences this winter, with Hugh Jackman (WOOF!), Rachel Weisz and the excellent Ellen Burstyn. Her performance in 'Requiem For A Dream' still moves me to this day, and if you haven't seen it, you really should. No, really, it's that good. I still remember catching the film upon release, and quite a surprising amount of people who just couldn't take the pace and got up and walked out when the film starts kicking up a gear or two. It is pretty unrelentless, but that's what makes the whole thing so special - it's pretty unique.

The official site finally went live this week. The site is uhh... trippy and exciting to say the very least, but nothing happening on it as yet but it's more than a little intruiging - enticing even. That screensaver is about to replace that old Matrix screensaver that everyone probably still has! What can I say, molten magma excites me shrug

I'm besides myself with anticipation. Darren's first two movies were both the emotional equivalent to a punch in the guts and face respectively, and both had brilliant and haunting scores by Clint Mansell (ex-P.W.E.I.) who's now signed on to score this one too. wOOtage.

Darren describes The Fountain as "An odyssey about one man's thousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves." Darren has decided not to use CGI in the movie (brilliant!) and instead is using a variation on Peter Parks' super-microscopic 3D photography. How exciting is that?

Darren also wrote a comic book version of Pi and will continue the tradition by releasing a graphic novel of The Fountain through Vertigo as well as mini comics released on the website by Jason Alexander,Olivier Bramanti, Geof Darrow, Seth Fisher, Dave Gibbons, Phil Hale, James Jean, Jim Lee, Mike Mignola, Jon J. Muth, Kostas Seremetis, Bill Sienkiewicz, Barron Storey, Martin Wilner.

I've heard about this one before. It sounds like it could either be one of the most brilliant films of this era or utter pretentious crap along the lines of Being Human. It's really, really hard to tell which it's leaning towards at this point.

I love Ellen Burstyn, have you seen Resurrection? Of course she will always be the mom in the Exorcist.

Agreed. Though he only has 2 under his belt so far.I too can see this being such a concept that it goes way out there. But I have faith in Darren to bring his vision into focus for us. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks Nana...I have been keeping up with this movie for a while now. Was hoping something would finally come of it.
