LUST IN THE DUST

GENIUS I SAY.

One of the most quotable movies ever.

"I'm going to make your face look like a plate of frijoles."

"Cheap, this furniture is cheap"

"I'm going to take you south of my border" "If you can afford her."

"It's imported. From Moberge France."

"You bitch"

And of course that long monologue that I still can't get right.
"I want to be ravaged like I never been ravaged before....."

i could never get into this movie. i think it's because i expected it to be like a john waters movie and it SO isn't. it's straight-forward, bawdy, old-skool camp, whereas there's always something kind of underground and funky about waters' brand of camp. maybe i should give 'lust in the dust' another viewing sometime, now that i am well aware of what i'm in for...

You are both right. It's silly. My best friend and I love JOHN WATERS but we still liked this movie. I mean it really made us laugh. I understand we all have different tastes though. Oh well.....

paul bartel directed this one, didn't he? i love some of his other stuff. i think 'rock'n'roll high school' should be required viewing for everyone on their 13th birthday, and i worship - WORSHIP - mary waranov. but this one didn't do it for me so much...it was too calculated, too '80s, too something. but then, the last time i saw it was years and years ago. maybe it's aged well and i can appreciate it now. shrug

Oh my God, I haven't seen ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL in years. Wow!!! Love it. I know what you mean about LUST IN THE DUST. I can almost see the UNIVERSAL STUDIOS TRAM pass by in the background. I guess what I really enjoy about the movie is DIVINE's facial expressions. A real actor. Even when the camera is not on him his face is over the top.

By the way, I just saw a really bad "gay" movie, with bad acting and cute boys. It was called EATING OUT. Some of the female actresses were kind of funny though. I am guilty of renting everything that is gay. My best frined hates that about me.

This is kind of off the wall but are you by any chance a MOLLY SHANNON fan or a JAN HOOKS fan?

i love molly AND jan. nod it's so weird, my bf and i were talking tonight about maligned SNL actresses, and we were talking about jan hooks and nora dunn and my personal favorite, (whatever happened to) melanie hutsell.

oh, i heard that "eating out" movie was rotten. ah well. i plan on seeing 'mysterious skin' when it hits DVD - loved the book, not crazy about gregg araki, so it'll be a toss up...

She thinks about it after a midget eats her out and she snaps his neck after her orgasm.

Melanie as Jan Brady, good gawd!!! Hilarious.

I tell you I get these psychic bursts. Jan Hooks was just always so serious in her comedy which made it even more outrageous. "Clang clang clang went the trolley" And what the hell happened to CHERIE OTERI. To this day we use this gesture she used on "CELINE DION" as "MARIAH CAREY" in a skit.

Yes, he was scheduled to play Peg's mother on an episode of 'Married...With Children' when he died. That would have been classic. The episode was eventually dedicated to him when it aired.

I went to see Mysterious Skin in the theater knowing full well my hatred for Gregg Araki films. (Gregg Araki soundtracks on the other hand, are a delight.) It was my suggestion for me and my friends because I read the good reviews and I knew my friends would be into the male nudity, but I didn't expect to enjoy it much myself.

I was pleasantly surprised. Mysterious Skin is very different for Gregg Araki in that it's a serious film--not at all absurd like the previous ones I had seen. Are there any other movies where he plays it straight, so to speak, like this?

Mysterious Skin is adapted from a book. That is why it's so different than everything he has done. I'm going to be unpopular in saying that I love GREG ARAKI movies. My fave is TOTALLY FUCKED UP, DOOM GENERATION and NOWHERE.

Oh man, I totally didn't like 'Doom Generation' and 'Nowhere'. I didn't even find them bad in a good way like John Waters' films. They were just bad, bad.

We agree to disagree and that's okay.

What is your favorite John Waters movie. Mine has to be FEMALE TROUBLES.

Ya know, I don't think I've ever seen 'Female Trouble' in it's entirety! 'Pink Flamingos' has to be the most outrageous one I've seen. 'Pecker' was a bit of a letdown. I expected a lot more from that one especially since Christina Ricci was in it. I really liked his latest, "A Dirty Shame".

FEMALE TROUBLES is DIET PINK FLAMINGOS, still as outrageous but not as gross. I also love PINK FLAMINGOS.That was the first time I ever gagged while watching a movie.

i thought he was supposed to play an uncle on the show...i remember reading that he was really proud to have a recurring character on a tv show where he didn't have to do drag, but of course it never happened... sad

Surprised to see many not liking it. You have to love the whole idea of those 2 being long lost twins. And don't forget about Nympha and Red Dick. I love this movie to death nod
