5 megapixels doesn't really sound like a lot...but then again I don't really know what a "megapixel" is.

Canon PowerShot A95
5.0 megapixels (effective), 3x optical zoom/3.6x digital zoom, auto and manual focus, program and manual exposure, JPEG file format only, ISO range 50-400, 4 AA batteries, movie mode with sound. Camera is priced around $280.00 The 32MB CompactFlash card included with the Canon A95 can only hold 11 images at the camera's highest resolution. I recommend purchasing at least a 128MB card or higher. This will give you more images to store on your card without having to worry about running out of space. Since the A95 ships with non-rechargeable AA batteries, which will drain very rapidly, I also recommend the purchase of 4 AA NiMH batteries and a recharger. Both of these things might cost you an extra $100 or so. But see if the dealer can throw in one of these things for free at least.

5 megapix will be ok if you don't plan on printing any of your pictures bigger then a 5x7 size sometimes you can push it to a 8x10 without the pic being grainy. For what you want it for you should be ok with 5.

Thanks to all for advice, especially ALTHOM. I unfortunately went with the less professional one.....BUT IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I'm sooooo excited. I'ts actually a CANON, not too shabby. It's only 3.2 MP, Karen seems to think that's okay also. Here it is. Drum roll please.....I love shopping on-line.
I will get the lithium batteries. M [Edited 8/1/05 23:34pm] MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"

Make sure you get yourself a big enough card for your trip.

wow miguel! It is beautiful! I agree with althom - a big memory card will go a LONG way. especially if you can't upload your photos and replenish your supply everyday! I would go with at least 256 megs. my sister got a 1 gig card and it holds thousands of photos.
good job on the lithium battery! and 3.2 MP is plenty, especially if you set the photos on the highest setting. how's the zoom? you're going to love it! I mean, like, where is the sun?

I think I got a 560mb card or something like that. It should hold a lot. I have lots of jpegs of naked men.....I mean art pix and there are zillions of them that I can fit on one cd and thats 750mb. I almost bought the 1 gig but for some reason it didn't offer it with this particular camera. I just got worried that it wouldn't fit. Any type of rechargable batteries are better to use with these cameras. As much as I agree with that, I also disagree. On long trips, where you have no place to charge your batteries, it's easier to work with AA batteries that can be found in every store. You can buy plenty of those and replace when they're emptied. Lithium batteries are harder to find and much much much more expensive.

thats my camera!!! i love it...it takes fantastic pictures and on the Auto setting it is very easy to use. it has many many many many extra features (like setting your own appeture/white balance/shutter speed, etc) but i'm not smart enough to figure those out yet. i have a great time though with special features like changing to B&W or Sepia and the video camera feature. excellent camera for the price...although i paid mucho more for my camera then althoms listed price (and i still think it was worth it!!) you're only as old as you feel..............so how old do i feel

It's most likely 56 MB (16 and 56 are standard capacities for cards that are sold with cameras) , which really isn't much unfortunately. Since high resolution pics on a 3.2 MP camera weigh around 2 MB each we're only talking around 30 pics before the card is full. And you can't compare with your "art pix" (). You got them off the internet, right? Then they're extremely low resolution and completely unfit to print out, at least if you have any quality demands whatsoever. I'd go buy a better card if I were you.

Current fujifilm camera's have a well-known fault with the LCD screens. Very sensitive and prone to going wrong. Stay clear.
As far as I see it, the megapixel count isn't as important as the quality of the lens. That's why you can buy a Brica camera with 8 megapixels for the equivalent of under $200 and yet the same amount of money will buy a Sony or Canon with maybe 4 megapixels if you're lucky. . From what I've heard, Canon and Sony are considered top quality for digital cameras.
I've gone through 3 Sony's and they're all fantastic. I now have a cheap Olympus, which I'm not yet sure how good it is. It doesn't seem to be very impressive
