SLOWLY ambling towards new york. just a quick check in...
so we ended up leaving friday in the big ass lovely cadillac, which is like a mini-SUV. ryan drives, chris keeps us amused with crossword puzzle books (we are such old ladies in young gay male bodies), and i lay across the backseat babying the most precious dog in the world, sally rose, and manage the trash bag, and we all spew out sarcasm. we each have our unofficially assigned roles, and do them well. i bought two disposable cameras before leaving, and have mostly just been taking pictures of things that crack me up. i told chris i was going to take pictures of the back of his head in various locales and start a cross country trip web site chronicling it all called www.thebackofchris'shead.com. so anyway, we spent the weekend in austin, which was lovely seeing old friends and revisiting the city that i love so much. got ryan addicted to thundercloud, a local austin sub sandwich chain that is like crack and blows subway out of the water. friday we met up with several old friends from odessa who have moved to austin over the years, and hung out on the patio of a bar and just fed off the old austintatious attitude i missed so. saturday ryan, chris, and i went to the only nude beach in texas, called hippie hollow, and having been before i had no problem shedding all and going balls to the wind. ryan slowly worked his way up to it and was naked towards the very end. chris wanted no part of it, but it was his first time at a nude beach, and even i, who am fairly shameless, took forever to get to the release of shame point the first time, so there you go. at one point, this very yum gorgeous black man with scorching brown eyes was cruising me, but i have gotten so used to ryan and chris's massive sex appeal making me invisable, i assumed he was looking at them, and kept walking till chris pointed out the schemantics of eye contact cruising, making it sound like he was looking at me. saturday night we went to a few gay bars, nothing much to speak of. met a really nice and reasonably cute guy, but didn't want to have casual sex with him, and will never see him again, so i just played it cool. sunday we went to SHLITTERBAHN, an AMAZING waterpark, one of the more famous in the world from what i am told, and had a blast! LOTS and LOTS of fun with the three of us and a very dear friend from childhood, rachel. ryan and i spent most of the time waiting in line that day playing "jew/not a jew", because ryan thinks i am crazy for blaming my stomach problems that run rampant on my mothers side of the family on the jewish genes, and i like to pretend to be massively jewish to annoy him. it's great fun, and gives me so much schtick material. today i went with some old friends to this great toy store in austin that mostly caters to austin's neverland adults who never fully grow up feel rather than kids. bought ryan some "shalom" gum, which has all these funny little jewish things on the packaging like "would it kill you to buy two?" and "recommended by my son, the dentist", and some hindu finger puppets of vishnu and ganesh for chris. chris promptly put them on the dashboard where they now protect the car or something like that. we said our goodbyes in austin, and drove to houston, where dave, ryan's lovely older brother lives with his two so-smart-at-5-and-3-they-make-me-feel-dumb kids, where we are staying the night. dave kills me, i wish he were gay. he's super-intelligent, very funny, extremely compassionate, and decidedly open-minded, not to mention pretty cute. i mentioned to ryan that i would totally go after him if he played for our team, and ryan told him which dave seemed to find charming, but as paranoid as i am, i t makes me a slight bit uncomfortable around dave now, because i always worry, as straight men tend to pull into that "well i'm flattered, but i'm straight and - OH MY GOD, HE'S STARING AT MY COCK" mode when told such things. dave however seemes not to be that way, but i am just nuerotic and still worry about it. a little saddened by the fact we have been trekking for 4 days now and are still in texas, but from here on out, it becomes less social and more see what we want to see, and move on to the next state, so adventure ahead. heading into louisiana tomorrow, and on towards georgia. found a muppet museum in missippi, in jim henson's hometown and are gonna get to go to that, which rocks, as i am a TOTAL muppet geek. chris and ryan probably will hate it, but it will be like going to mecca for me. in georgia we are going to see chris's hometown, and hopefully savannah, as ryan and i are both big fans of "midnight in the garden of good and evil", which bizarrely enough chris has not read despite being a georgia native. if internet access allows, will post more form on-road. miss ya all. (woulda said ya'll, but ain't gonna be a texan no more... crap, said ain't and a double negative. well, you can take the hayseed out of texas...) .
