How old does society think you look? Society mentions to me... I look like I am in my 20's... mid and sometimes early 20's. Taken last night... and getting hit on by young boys. Please... No thanks. I am 34. ~Smile. . [Edited 7/30/05 10:41am]

On a plane earlier this year, the woman who had just sat down next to me looked at me, looked down at her magazine, and looked back up at me, appalled. I glanced at her quizzically and she exclaimed, "My! Aren't you too young to be traveling by yourself?!"
Me: "I'm 22." Her: "Oh, dear Lord, I thought you were fifteen!" Me: ...I was doubly confused...first, I don't think I look that young...second, I would think that a fifteen-year-old would be smart enough to travel by plane on his or her own...

Ex-Moderator | I think I look about my age, but most people tell me I look a few years younger. I'd like to think that not EVERYONE is just being polite, but you never know. And I've come to accept that there's nothing wrong with looking 30 if you are, indeed, 30.
Though, as I have mentioned numerous times here, I've started buying wrinkle cream (even though I don't have any yet, I've got to keep them away as long as possible) and my biggest motivating factor for quitting smoking is the hideous damage it will do to my face. Its so bad, in a way, to think I've spent years smoking with no care as to how it's affected my lungs, etc., yet when I see my older relatives who have been life-long xmokers and how that's affected the skin on their faces, it's one heck of a motivater. Still, whatever works. I still have to quit though. Soon. |

It is just something I face everyday. I mean everyday! I begin my day... and no matter where I am... I get commits. Dare I say compliments. I am pretty modest I believe, it takes me by surprise nearly everytime. I definitely don't think I am beautiful, I am the biggest dork ever! However I do believe it does take work, along with self-respect to uphold an image and a certain way of life. It does not come entirely free... it takes time everyday. Petra... you are absolutely beautiful... in more ways than one. [Edited 7/30/05 11:41am]

Have you never been with a date that doesn't smoke? I bet "I can't kiss you, you taste like an ashtray" would be a bit of a motivator too...

(Though, with the sunblock I don't have much of a choice. Fair-skinned as I am, I burn within 15-20 minutes of straight-on sun exposure. I wonder how red-heads in the days before sunblock got on... ) |

Personally, I am totally over the entire 'what do others think of me'-thing. Sure, I can get flattered, people asking me "So, what are you majoring in?" but I immediately call them out, calling them flirts, or, if they are women, blind.
I have had people thinking I was 24 to 39 this year. It all depends on how I feel, if I shaved and how well I slept the night before. And even that does not always work that way. Other people's opinions are just way too fickle for me. At the good age of 34 I am most of the times quite happy in my skin. So who cares what others say about how old I come across? It's about what is in the heart, serious. People who care too much about looks and age do not tend to be very good friends of mine.

Actually, if anyone said that to me, it would have been the last date. I used to be very much of the opinion that no boy was worth changing such a habit for. Love me, love my smoking. Gosh, I loved smoking. However, since I'm already working my way up to quit these days, I can accept that someone else might not like my smoking either. |
