A riddle for you Three friends were in a restaurant.
After they had lunch, the total bill came to $25. Each one of them put a $10 bill. The waiter didn't know how to devide $5 between them, so he took $2 to himself and gave each $1 back. So each one eventually paid $9. But wait! $9 X 3 = $27 and the waiter too $2. $27 + $2 = $29. Where did the last $1 disappear?

The waiter took the penny. But if each paid $10 and got $1 back, that means each paid $9. no?

The last line should be $27 - $2, not $27 + $2.

Actually they only piad $29, the orginal $30 dosent matter it was just an amount to start with(i.e. 3 $10 bills) So the $1 isn't missing it was deducted from the total amount paid. P.S. on a $25 tab w/3 people they shoud;ve tipped the waiter $5 cheap bastards [Edited 7/29/05 18:39pm] I find it lonely being a loner

So each one eventually paid $9. But wait! $9 X 3 = $27 True. Each paid $9 and the waiter too $2. Hold on there buddy. You already added the two dollars from the waiter in the line above. That's how you arrived at the $27 total: $25 meal plus $2 swiped by the dumb waiter. So don't be tryin' to trick me. $27 + $2 = $29. No, $27 (for food and waiter's tip) + the $3 given to the friends = the original $30. There is no missing money. Where did the last $1 disappear? The trick in this riddle is that the riddler is adding the waiter's tip twice but disguising it to confuse you.

Actually, $30 - the $25 bill - the $2 tip - the $3 left over to each = $0.
