I've found it really helpful...although I'm still procrastinating like HELL, the site has given me the push to do the work I've actually completed.

Interesting! I just hope people aren't witty and funny over there so that I'll get stuck chatting with them. lol I'll definitely look into it. thumbs up!

lol you had better hope that they like you over there because now that we all know about your procrastinating we are gonna be stuck to your ass like a thong two sizes too small.

I just finished up my BA. I perfected the art of procrastination, yet managed to get very good marks regardless. There's really nothing you can to do beat it, unless you glue your ass to the chair and just finish the paper. Or have someone stand over your shoulder and force you to do it. I, however, suggest doing whatever until the day before it's due. Make sure to nap and get a LOT of sleep, then finish it during your all-nighter.

You mentioned you keep getting stuck... so write around it. Even if it takes 10 pages of shit; it will help you to get where you need to be. Eventually you'll hit it on the head.

Good luck! let us know how it turns out! and where are you going to in Japan?
I mean, like, where is the sun?

You're just mad because California is like New York's twin, only California is the tanner, fitter, blonder, better-looking twin. Don't hate. talk to the hand

I've been fighting this same problem for the last six months, well actually the last four years really. I've been doing a PhD for the last four years and have avoided writing anything up until the last six months!!! I'm now in panic mode and trying to get evertything done in the shortest time possible. I wish I had have done something earlier but I don't think I could have forced myself to do so.

Good luck and try to avoid doing what I did!!!

I have been in similar situations and I have procastinated like you wouldn't believe. I just focus and force myself to do it. There's no magic formula (not for me).

That's what I usually do, but since it's supposed to be around 50 pages long I think even a quadruple espresso wouldn't give me enough of a boost to do it in one night. Maybe I can plan four or five all-nighters with three days of rest in between... hmmm

You mentioned you keep getting stuck... so write around it. Even if it takes 10 pages of shit; it will help you to get where you need to be. Eventually you'll hit it on the head.

You're right. Just seeing actual text on the page has a soothing effect and helps focus the ideas. Thanks.

Most likely somewhere in the Kinki region since that's where most of the jobs are (I was recently called to one interview regarding work in Osaka or Kyoto). I wouldn't mind Kyushu either though. Hell, any region would do as long as it isn't Hokkaido. I wouldn't want to travel across the planet to end up in another cold place. shake

Okay, that actually made me feel a lot better. lol

I mean, wow! What have you been doing all these years? I'm half-kidding of course since I know how long it takes to do research and prep for the writing, but still... You must have had a lot of fun too! wink

Had a bit of fun in my first year but it was a bit of a slog after that. I was working pretty much every weekend in my last two years. I love the reseach element, planning experiments, being in the lab, playing with all the equipment BUT absolutely hate writing.

My only advice is to try not to beat yourself up too much over what you haven't done. Try to ease yourself into doing some work, even if its only reading around the subject, making a plan, etc.

you know, anything but doing what you should be doing. Going out and fondling unsuspecting bystanders bottoms and blaming it on the little old lady standing next to you. Batting your eyes at the handsome lad behind the counter in woolworths and asking him if he would like to help himself to your pic N Mix.

all of the above is not my thing btw, just in case you think I'm some kind of pervert, of which I am not.

Where did you get stuck? Have you just started? Are you halfway through?

I'm sorry, but did you say something about an academic paper? hmm

I have selective chronic reading and I just skim read through your original post. Something about how you procrastinate or something...I don't know...I wasn't really paying attention. razz

wink

damn this thread is so me. all i can tell you retina is to just designate a time slot or something like that and stick to it. just force yourself. when i procrastinate and i know i gotta get something done i just say to myself "aint nuthin' to it but to do it" and i stick to it. i'm not helping am i? i tried.
