Tokyo street style

There's a book that has some great pictures of Tokyo street fashion, It's kind of interesting, quirky and very individual. Some of this Japanese street fashion you see here in London and it is eye catching. What do you think?

"Fruits is a collection of Tokyo street fashion portraits from Japan's premier street fanzine of the same name. Fruits was established in 1994, by photographer Shoichi Aoki, initially as a project to document the growing explosion in street fashion within the suburbs of Tokyo. Over the last five years, the magazine has grown to cult status and is now avidly followed by thousands of Japanese teenagers who also use the magazine as an opportunity to check out the latest styles and trends."

The guy in the top left corner has very nice clothes. nod Or maybe I should say clothes that really suit him. I could never wear a low cut sweater like that.

The rest is so so. I've seen other Japanese fashion that is waaay nicer.

i was in Japan recently and i was constantly stimulated visually by their fashion sense (excluding businessmen in suits). Though, i must say i think i liked looking at the schoolgirls in their uniforms the most. redface

i was in battle with myself all while i was there not to photograph the people on the street. lol

I think he carries it off well. Some of it is an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary. Like a Kimono etc but with a modern twist.

i agree with both of you, he does carry it off well, and they are possibly suited to him rather than everyone - I think the tops rather suit his body frame. the colours would work well for anyone though, and that is an ace hat. smile

lleena - i dig the dress / trouser thing too. i have seen much scruffier versions of that before at university, which didn't do much for me. lol but she has managed to make it look dainty & pretty. smile

I don't dig all of it, but Tokyo girls have style (as do London girls).

I'M LOVING IT. I also like all the Kajagoogoo, kajiguru, kajacoocoo fashions or whatever they call it.

I had those giant boots before. I loved them. Those were the days. I can't pull off that look now that I'm approaching 40. Although I'm not opposed to older people dressing young. It's all about fun.

The dress/trousers thing has been around for a while. I've seen it done really well and also not so great. I know what you mean about pretty, she looks dainty, unlike a construction worker with a dress on, i.e Cloudbuster.

Actually, it is becoming a craze there. That is not actually a sheer skirt, but a skirt w/ the underwear painted on it. nod I was just reading about how women are wearing these now in Japan. It really does look real though. lol
