Classic African American sitcoms to hit stores August 23rd.

If anyone is enjoying the "Good Times" marathon as much as I am, listen up. A bunch of great 70s (80s?) sticoms with African Americans will be in stores by late August. Columbia Tristar owns the rights to a lot of these and often sells them at exteremly reasonable prices. Some of the new releases:

Good Times-Season Five (no Mom or Dad)
What's Happening-Season Three (no Mom)
That's My Mama-Season One (never heard of this show....but I have an idea there is a mom!)

Sadly, no new "The Jeffersons"...they are only on Season 3 and I know there was more than 3 seasons! "Different Strokes", while not a favorite is only on Season 1....maybe it didn't do that well or maybe they are looking for special features, which the first one apparently had...and somewhat unrelated, where is "Facts Of Life"....that would sell well!

I'm waiting for "The Cosby Show" Season 1 DVD set later this summer.

And they need to put "Martin" out on official DVD (no more shoddy bootlegs).

That's on the second season....not sure if I saw the whole thing (I was really busy then) but I definately remember watching that episode on there.

"Night Court" is going to have a full weekend on TVland and then they will begin airing it regularly like they are with "Good Times". Check TVland for which weekend that is.

I also love "Martin" and would like it to be on DVD although it got kind of crappy toward the end when he dropped the character he used to do, especially Shanana! I would buy the first season for sure! It's sad that Fox used to be a leader when it came to African American sitcoms and now they have none (although sitcoms overall are a dying breed).

That is an iconic moment of my childhood. Watching Rerun pop and lock to "What A Fool Believes" in a trenchcoat, and all of a sudden, at this "concert," his tape recorder falls out and the crowd goes silent.

Man, there's no price one can put on a moment like that.

"That's My Mama" must have had at least two seasons....both will be available August 23rd! That's very unsuaul. The only other show I can think of that released it's first two seasons on DVD simuemteanoulsy like that was "Sienfield" and I'm sure this will have that kind of whirlwind media frenzy around it as well! I honestly wonder how many stores will stock this. I know that mot conveience stores only carry maybe one or two seasons from even the most popular shows. Wonder if they will stock this alongside "Good Times"...

Part of "That's My Momma" was set in a barber shop, where Clifton Davis' character cut hair. Ted Lange (without his Issac mustache)was his buddy, if I remember correctly. There was another character (his real name Teddy something -character actor on Good Times and other 70's shows - he played the head gangster who wanted to jack JJ up for borrowing money for Thelma's wedding). From what I can remember, it was cool show.

A valuable resouse I go to is TV SHows on DVD.com

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news.cfm

I think Different Strokes just came out.

Yes Facts of Life would be good....though like Different strokes and probably WHat's Happening...watching it now...a lot of it is dated and stale and not entirely funny.

I'm surprised "Living Single" didn't come out with all of Queen Latifah's recent success...considering the movies are doing less and less business, I sadly don't see a "Living Single" set getting released in the midst of her now wanning popularity.

I love that site. They are very informative and good at tracking down any news on any show! Too bad they don't seem to say anything about why a popular show like "Facts" isn't set for release yet.

From what I remember,it was a short-lived sitcom that aired in 1976.I think it starred Clifton Davis and a young Kim Fields,if i'm not mistaken. It's been YEARS since I've seen an episode.

Her popularity is waning? confuse Her last major movie garnered her an Oscar nomination. She's actually bigger than ever now.

I'll have to pull that episode out and watch it again, but I think it was the song "Listen To The Music" that was being performed when Rerun got caught. They also performed "Black Water".

LOL..."African American" sitcoms.

People are way too careful with the perfect political correctness.

I don't need to call something that's white "caucasian."

What's wrong with just saying "black sitcoms?"

Anyway, those all sound like crap to me.

Good Times without James = bullshit
