Buena Vista Township — (07/20/05)--More sexual misconduct charges have been leveled against a local teacher accused of having sex with her students. abc12 video report

Former Buena Vista School District band teacher Laura Findlay was back in court Wednesday and there are also other new developments involving her case.

In addition to two more charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against Findlay, there's another alleged victim -- a sixth -- that claims she coerced them into having sexual relations with her.

Because of the sensitive nature of the case, we won't see or hear from the alleged victims. The details of this case are graphic.

Findlay, 30, now faces a total of 22 charges of first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly performing oral sex and having sex with six male students at Ricker Middle School, who, at the time were all 14 years old.

The teens were all eighth grade band students of Findlay's. Three of them testified during Wednesday afternoon's preliminary exam and told the same stories.

The victims say that starting last November, Findlay at times would pull them out of class back to her band room and dance on their laps. One teen testified that Findlay performed oral sex on him 12 times in a nearby band room.

"It's one of the most significant cases Buena Vista Township has had," said Ken Bluew with the Buena Vista Township Police Department.

"Aside from homicides, it is a serious case. We feel it is strong or we wouldn't have brought it in front of a judge."

The alleged sexual scenes played out until this past February.

One of the alleged victims said once earlier this year, Findlay drove them behind the K-Mart store in Buena Vista Township and performed oral sex on them in her vehicle.

Two of the teens testified that Findlay would give them money and A grades for her class, but at the same time said the grades in other classes were getting worse because they were being taken out of class so often.

"One of the parents reported to us and to our department and we started investigation from there," Bluew said.

The teens also testified that Findlay told them that if anyone knew what was going on she would be in big trouble. One of them thought if a teacher was doing it, nothing was wrong with it.

Based on Wednesday's testimony, Judge Randy Jurrens bound her case over for trial. She remains in the Saginaw County Jail
