26 C, set to turn off at 12:30am each night. I turn it back on around 10am and it runs most of the day.

I don't have one of those. I have a fan. It's currently set at High (which in English means "Blow the hot air around as fast as you can").

But seriously - I moved to Colorado in 1995 and that was the first time I had AC - it gets SOOOOO hot there!!! It's not necessary in California to be quite honest with you...it stays pretty nice out here all year long....

see, i heard that was the worst thing to do makes your bills higher that way plus - dont you need it to cool you off from all that crazy love makin youre doing with mrs. fauxie ????? We're more morning people. How could having your AC switch off for nearly 10 hours cost more? Important thing when it's running is just how often the compressor turns off. If it's not turning off then it's working too hard and won't last long. With the heat outside ours will struggle to turn off at anything lower than around 22 or 23 so we keep it at 26 and use a fan if necessary. Usually it's fine though.

That kinda makes sense, but it certainly has to be better for the compressor to turn off, even if u don't manually turn the whole unit off. If the compressor runs all night then it's definitely going to be stressed. Of course, there are very good heavy duty air-conditioners that will run forever at whatever temperature u ask it to. Our one is only 13,000 BTU, I think. Here it's still quite hot in the middle of the night, but by then I'm asleep and since I'm not moving, the fan (which is on all night) does enough. In the morning, when we turn the air-con on, the temperature is not that hot so there's not that much work for it do when getting starting. We turn it on just before the weather heats up each day, which is usually between 9am and 11am.

I guess it's so hot here in general that u get used to it. I know the heat doesn't bother me as much as it did when I first moved here. Sometimes I'll just make do with the fan on high and leave the air-con off if I know I'm just going to be watching TV for a while. We also buy products that have the best rating for economy.
What's 26 C in F I wonder? Looked it up - currently 90F outside here, and we have our air set to 79F every day. Alright, I must have better things to do than talk about the weather and my air-conditioning habits.
