So not to long ago I put in an application to americorps...like the peacecorps but my ass don't have to leave the country. Anyway, the lady from University of California called me and told me today she was really really interested in me working for her program. What I would be doing, is for 11 months I would go into the lower income areas around LA and help the kids with various things like tutoring, college prep stuff like the SAT's, the ACT's, filling out financial aid forms, etc. Basically helping them to prepare themselves to go to college. I would basically make sure everyone of those kids is given the chance to get the education they deserve. Then at the end of the 11 months I get 5 G's to go back to school.

Plus I get paid monthly to do this...though the pay is not steller....actually its pretty low. But what do you expect from the great ol US OF A federal government. Anyway as I degress back on to my point. What made me really decide to do this, is when one day I got a letter from the US government with about my student loan balance....YUCK!! I sat there bitching about the amount I owe. Then I realized, why am I bitching, there are so many kids that would kill for the education I got....ok maybe not kill but you guys know what I mean. I mean, I went to college to learn how to take pictures and study art. Talk about a walk in the park. Yet, there are so many bright young kids that do not get the chance to even try to get that education for various reasons. Its sad when you know people who can not even afford to buy their kids school supplies like crayons and pencils. I have a friend who is dealing with this now with the new school year fastly approaching. So knowing her pain of being a broke ass, cause I am, I went and bought the stuff her kids will need to start school. Its nicely tucked away in her apartment waiting for its trip on the first day of school.

I guess my point is of all this rambling, that the damn letter from the federal government made me realize that 1. I want to teach, 2. I want to teach art, 3. There is not enough art programs in our schools...we keep hearing about "save the music" Ok where the hell is "save the drawing classes, save the painting classes, save the sculpture classes and for gods sake save the PHOTOGRAPHY classes." But most importantly I learned I need to stop my bitching and whining, cause there are people in this world that do not have half of what I have, and god damn it I am gonna change that!

And you're right...all art classes need help, not just music.
