whole foods is way more expensive than TJs and not nearly as fun of a shopping experience, though they do have a lot of good vegetarian/ethnic food items that a regular supermarket wouldn't carry.

So, Whole Foods is more expensive than TJ's. Well, I know my ass won't be shopping there. There suppose to be a opening up one near where I live which is stupid considering we already have TJ's and Wild Oats. Thanks for the heads up Anxiety.

it's worth checking out, but i'd just go to look for fun stuff for cooking, not to stock up on groceries. plus, if they have a deli with places to sit and eat, it's not a bad place for lunch breaks every now and then. but yeah, prepare for a bit of sticker shock...

I love Whole Foods (I loooove Jamba Juice! And the soaps and cosmetics are awesome), but I've never been to Trader Joe's.

Maybe I'll go this weekend. Can you do your whole "grocery shoppin' list thing" there, or is it like Whole Foods where you go just for a treat, unless you're loaded?

wink

you can do the grocery shoppin' list thing at trader joes, though this is what i do:

for milk, paper goods, and really really BASIC stuff, i'll go to the regular supermarket, because there's more variety and usually better deals.

for everything else, i'll go to TJs - frozen veggies, pastas and sauces, snacks, coffee, juice, produce - if you spend too much money, it'll be because you piled your cart too high. nod

They also have this yummy shampoo and conditioner in these amethyst jewel color bottles (Trader Joe brand)~ rich and fragrant and cruelty free. A great value too at about 1.99 for maybe 16 oz.

That's remarkable.

Hence my remark.

Here you can't get anything near drinkable for less than the equiv. of $10.

Drinkable wines for a few bucks eh? Who'da thunk it? I'm living in the wrong country.

Beer of all varieties are available in this country. woot!

Especially Two-Buck Chuck -- the popular Charles Shaw wines.

(edit -- ooops sorry) ...

but I have to add on that the wine selection is pretty decent and they just have great food. It's an awesome store. A few in Detroit, a few in Cleveland and Columbus and Dayton. Gotta get one in Toledo, soon. Come on Trader Joe's!
