[Edited 7/21/05 20:11pm] To make it more like you, I was so into Rhythm Nation 1814 at the time. I wore that album out, especially Lonely. That was one of my wallow in sadness high school songs. For me it was The Velvet Rope - just 1 generation away That album helped me through HS. Lonely is the shit. And why I only bold album/song/artist titles when I reply to your posts is beyond me. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start stressing out over comma usage.

Err, I was in the magnet program, so I guess a lot of us were considered geeky, but it was pretty nebulous. There were three types of magnet kids: "popular," "extra geeky" and "everyday." I guess I was part of the "everyday" set. However, by junior and senior year, I became a full-fledged journalism nerd and hung out in the newspaper & student gov't rooms during lunch period.

Oh g*d, let me not get started on The Velvet Rope. That was my SOUNDTRACK during high school. I swear I played that album almost everyday for about 2 years straight. Wore out 2 copies. And wrote about it in a college admissions essay. I used to keep my Sankofa necklace on the outside of my backpack like a magic orb. Even drew the Sankofa symbol inside my locker and on every textbook cover. I even quoted Janet in my senior yearbook Will. I was known as *the Janet fan* at my H.S. "JANFAN4L" is nothing new. . Geeky, geek geek. Nerd boy. I'm still seen the same way in college. College students are really just old high schoolers. Nothing's changed. Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

That's why 5 year high school reunions are a joke. The 10 year is more interesting.

I wasnt popular, i wasnt a geek. I had lotsa friendz and we were all very quirkyz. Dat i can say for sure- we were all quirky and crazy and enjoyed taking da piss out of everything and anything we possibly couldz. We just laughed a whole lot. I got picked on by some galz. Either they'd make snide commentz cause of my hair- it alwayz alwayz was done up nice even though i was just at school- but i was pedantic like dat It was very unlike me 2 have a hair out of place Plus my accent. It was different and they often mocked me for my less-Aussie pronunciationz. But my friendz loved me for all those thingz and i had no problem with it. I just didnt like bein picked on. It got 2 a point where all my friendz were put 2gether in one class altogether- i guess in dat way we were kinda geek-ish- but in a very un-stereotypical way. Geek-like as in- we were genuinely all unique personalitiez who were also actually nice. And God forbid you are nice girl at an all-girlz private school. EEK!! No hablo espanol,no!
Pero hablo ingles..ssii muy muy bien... "Come into my world..." Missy Quote of da Month: "yeah, sure, that's cool...wait WHAT?! "

I also quoted her in the yearbook, had her pictres in my locker, and dressed up like her for Halloween for two years and wore the costume to school. In English class junior year, we had to write a thesis paper and I wrote mine on Janet and how her music has helped me.

I was the "brut", the "pot head" and the "freak"
The pot head because I discovered where my brothers secret stash was. The brut because my brother always beat me up so I took it out on other boys. And the freak cuz I dyed my hair different colors every week, wore cords, a biker jacket and had a shaved head. Oh those were the days!

I tried to incorporate Janet in my curriculum the best I could. I remember doing a presentation on her in my English class, so I stood up in the front of the classroom with index cards talking about "Jam & Lewis and Minneapolis." It's so funny. I remember kids would report back to me if they saw Janet on TV. "OMG, Jan, did you see that new 'Go Deep' video on TRL?" "What's she working on?"

I was a theater geek! My acting teacher was a huge Prince fan too! One day I went in the theater of our school early and she was there working on something and listeing to Lovesexy. I was like Omg you like Prince? and she was like I LOVE PRINCE..and we talked expecialy how interesting his lyrics were.
But yeah I loved being in theater...we had our own little crew and had fun together...I always thought the popular kids were boring and lame actualy and weren't creative at all!

Popular for the most part. I found ways to have the coolest parties, barbecues and talent shows on campus at lunch time and the whole school loved it. The way my school worked was that the sophomores and freshman coordinated the senior activities so that they could be involved. They were not allowed to attend senior functions so they wanted to make it up to them. Somehow the politically correct crowd took over the senior activities and screwed them up. Our class superlatives consisted of Most community service, Most respected, Most politically active and some other mess. The only things that was normal was the most athletic, class clown and we barely got best smile. They kicked Best body because it was too sexist or some shit. These kids were out of their minds. I think we beat up some of them for messing up our activities. They attempted to destroy our prom and change it to a memorial service for this kid that committed suicide that no one knew. I was sad for the kid but come on, a memorial service prom? That was the last straw. I took over the committee my junior year on a blind sided motion and won the love of the campus. I was such a slick ass but never got in trouble. Luckily, the adminstration loved me. Wow the memories! Good one! Wanted: Virtual Sugar Daddy to help me buy stuff on Farmville and move up the ranks.
