Multivitamins and/or supplements

What vitamins and/or other supplements do you take? And if you please, what do you take them for?

I take Vitamin E - recommended by my doctor for this nasty lump - and used to take Flintstones vitamins for children. giggle

However my mom just bought me some gummy childrens' vitamins (Winnie the Pooh!) and they taste amazing! Just like candy. The Flintstones always left an iron-y aftertaste in my mouth.

Yanno, I've realized that I unintentionally jack each and every single one of Pam's threads.

I'm officially a worthless assmonger.

I take Glucosamine Sulphate and Cod Liver Oil.

GS is good for joints, cartilage etc, and I started taking it when I was working out a lot more than I do now redface but I still keep it up.

Cod Liver Oil because it may or may not help the joints and it contains Omega 3 oils, which may or may not be beneficial to long term health. shrug

Most of the time, I keep up with my vitamin intake through food, although I do slip up occasionally.

I'm a real believer in taking vitamin and mineral supplements. In an ideal world, if we all ate lots of fresh fruit and vegetables grown in soil that wasn't drained of goodness, we wouldn't need them. But this isn't an ideal world.

On the other hand, there's a danger that people take a multi-vitamin and think that they can skip the fruit and vegetables - wrong! You only get the health benefits if you take them sensibly in conjunction with a good diet and you're consistent about it.

The RDA, the recommended daily allowance, is basically a figure concocted by the government for the MINIMUM you need to survive - the real figure for individuals is inevitably much higher.

I don't buy everyday store vitamins - they're usually of low beneficial quality, using cheap ingredients. Some of the bright coloured shells they encase them in can't even be broken down by the body, so you just poo them straight out practically untouched!

I buy from high-end companies that have put a lot of reseach into the whole thing.

So, I take lots of absorbable Vitamin C first and foremost, with some Selenium, natural vitamin E and Omega 3-6 fish oil, all from a fantastic company called Higher Nature. (The Eskimos eat a lot of meat and have high cholestrol, but they have low rates of heart disease - why? Because they also consume a lot of fish oil which protects them).

From a company called Neways I get Cascading Revenol, a powerful mixture of anti-oxidents, and Maximol, a colloidal liquid of necessary minerals designed to be easily absorbable.

And from a company called Pharmwest, some capsules that specifically help the immune system, mostly including Inositol.

The result is that while I used to get 3 colds and a flu every year, now I go for years without either.

The recent decision by the European Council to limit and ban vitamins is appalling! Items that have been used for years without incident are suddenly banned, and yet drugs are readily available on shelves that cause tons of side-effects and even deaths!

And they always go, oh, ask your doctor before taking anything - your doctor isn't trained in nutrients and minerals so he has no idea what to advise - better to see a trained and open-minded nutritionlist.

I take a women's supplemental vitamin for iron and protein, and three other vitamins that promote healthy hair, nails and skin.

I take the supplemental vitamin and two of the others in the morning and the last vitamin at night.

I just take multivitamins, and a blend of Ginko/Green Tea and other engergy boosting herbs. Only bad thing, is these supplements have me running to the bathroom like every 30 minutes. When I don't take them (like when I run out, and I'm too lazy to go to the store), I'm fine.
