Writing checks to pay for groceries??? How lame is that?
I always use cash. The worst are these idiots with their stupid coupons. Oh great, hold up the f-n line so some fat-ass housewife with bad hair extensions can save .50 on soap. [Edited 7/20/05 14:33pm]

great.....a thread about writing checks at the grocery store.....on prince.org.....
When I was living in the States I was amazed by the fact that everybody was still writing checks to pay bills, or at the grocery store, etc.....I think of it as pretty backwards.... Being in my 30's, I am used to paying electronically or make bank-transactions over the phone....what's this bankcheck-shit???? [Edited 7/20/05 14:54pm]

At the grocery stores where I live, if you have bonus card, you don't have to wait to get check approved, you get store discounts which is cool, and the registar prints out your check. [Edited 7/20/05 1:41am] I always here people say "You're going to charge your groceries...". Why the hell not? No, I'm going to suck it out of my checking account as fast as possible rather than putting it off. Get a life!

Oh and you can forget the Wholesales Clubs like BJ's & Sam's. I rarely shop at the grocery store. Usually, I stock up for a month at the wholesale store. Now,if I need a few specialty stuff, I may shop at the grocery store which is rare.

[Edited 7/20/05 14:33pm] I always cut coupons out but I NEVER use them. I just keep forgetting about them. For the most part those store cards help me save enough. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Moderator | Grocery stores by me won't take a check. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Oh my GOD. I am that cashier. About 1 in 40 people who I ring up at my job can manage to swipe their debit card without needing me to point things out. I mean, fuck, is it really that difficult to figure out that if you don't want cashback, you press the OK button? If all these goddamned machines were identical (ie. which direction your card has to face to swipe correctly, machine NOT so old the type is worn off the buttons, buttons NOT in different places machine to machine) then it WOULD be a simple matter of pressing the same buttons you always do. I don't always shop at the same place and the machines are different from place to place. But no, I could not be bothered writing cheques (they charge a fee for cheques here and most shops won't accept them anyway). I get everything on credit for reward points and pay full balance each month to avoid any interest.

Caligula said: What about those people, such as my best friend, who have checks but no debit card?
I've had a debit/credit for near a year now, but not everyone gets one just because they'e got a checking acount. Example, I have a checking account at First National Bank in my hometown, and THEY won't even give you one until you've had your account open for three months. The place I have my savings account, you have to wait six. My account at 5/3, I had no wait. It came in the mail two weeks later. Just for this thread... If I ever get ahold of a Debit card to pay for groceries, I will still use my checks, and write incredible slow for everyone who wants to whine about check writing. Plus, debit cards when used is taken directly out of your bank account, maybe people who use checks don't have the money in the account and they know the check way won't hit the bank until a certain day thus giving them time to put money into the account. B-o-b that's me!
