You ever see the movie "The Straight Story"??...
In the movie, this elderly man makes a trip to go visit his brother, whom he hasn't seen in years, and decides to make the trip using a riding lawnmower or something like that...it's based on a true story, actually, and is amazingly good. Anyway, there's this scene in the movie...where the elderly guy is on some lonely backroad riding the lawnmower by himself..and all of a sudden, you hear loud thunder and lightning. That moment in the movie you have this instant feeling of worry for the man, completely alone and with only a mower, and it's obviously just about to start pouring down. The man looks around, and sees this old, weathered shed that's missing like two walls just off the backroad, so he steers his mower over to it, and gets underneath the battered roof just in time. The feeling you have for a moment is concern for the old man stuck in the middle of nowhere as it's about to storm...and you look at his face as if he's gonna register this expression of regret, like "Why am I doing this"... But instead, you see this beautiful expression of peace and pleasure come across his face as he stares out from beneath the old shed...and the camera gives you the view he's looking at...and it shows a very similar image to the one you started off this thread with...rolling hills, rain coming down steadily, dark clouds just hovering...and at that point, you realize that he's not regreting a single thing. He's actually appreciative of the moment, finding it beautiful... I love that scene... | |
