I was 8-years-old the first time I saw it. It was the first movie to scare the crap outta me, and it remains my all-time favorite horror movie. I hate that it gets lumped in with lesser movies of its kind. Great movie.

oh, poltergeist scared the crap out of me when i was a kid. it was mainly that freakin' clown under the bed - i used to have a HUGE fear of creatures under the bed, and that damn movie just made things worse! lol

Yeah. It would have to be the Exorcist for me.

The fact that it's inspired by a true story ... and many religious people believe possession by the devil and his evil minions are possible ... makes it seem so real and like it could happen to me ...

This movie can keep me up for days with no sleep ... the only way I overcome the fear is by trawling the Internet for rebuttals to the original news stories ... stories that suggest the boy who was supposedly possessed was a prankster who fooled people.

The original William Shatner mold they used for the mask is long gone. Pitty, cuz there's still a market for that mask.

no, but i saw the original japanese version of that one film about the house that's haunted by those creepy things that make marilyn manson noises and there's the little ghost kid and the grandma dies or her mouth gets full of flies or something. well, it wasn't scary.

Ju-On. Not scary at all! So not scary that I didn't even bother with the Buffy version. However, the original Japanese version of Dark Water is very good.

Ringu sucked as well. I was thinking that it's from Japan...it MUST be scarier than the US version. I waited MONTHS to see it. One BIG yawner!

It's not quite as scarey as you think. It's worth watching, but the acting is so bad that it keeps you from being drawn in enough to be scared. Carey Elwes is cute, but he's a lousy actor.

I have to say, it's stupid as hell now, but "The Blair Witch Project" scared the shit out of me. I couldn't get that final image of the guy standing in the corner out of my head for days. I think alot had to do with the faux documentary that aired on tv the night before I saw it, and so I went into the movie pretending it was real footage.
Watching it now though, it's dumb as balls. biggrin

Oh yeah, and there was this film I saw as a kid called "Trilogy of Terror" that had this little Indian doll running around trying to kill Karen Black ("Raiders of the Lost Ark"). I saw it was I was like 5 years old and I was scared shitless.

Oh yeah, and "Silence of the Lambs!" I didn't know shit about it going in, and it was awesome.

I used to be scared as shit of The Exorcist and Amityville Horror.
i won't watch any scary movies now. I think they'll just give me nightmares and I live alone with no one to check the bumps in the night.

Has to be this one, although the book was much scarier....

And as someone else already mentioned, Alien. eek Apparently H.R. Giger (the surreal artist and creator of the alien in the movie) had, or has the life-size model used in the first Alien movie right in his hallway in his house in Switzerland. He said he would be going to the bathroom at night to brush his teeth or something, and he'd see the reflection of the Alien in the hallway behind him. It would scare the crap out of him and it was his own creation. lol
