Is this real? I don't understand why a racing website would host this picture.

If it's real, it's disgraceful.

If it's not real and it's some sort of a joke, it's disgraceful.

the amazing thing is this comes from a huge company..topps is the number #1 card company in America...you might expect something this disgusting from a fly by night company but not such a huge company such as Topps

here is their website http://www.etopps.com/Sto...lehome.asp

thanks both for the info.

right, well IMO that's just a dumb & disrespectful series of cards. The top news stories of each week, eh? Great, so that'll include captives getting their heads severed in Iraq, innocent Iraqis dying, the abuse in Abu Ghraib, death in Israel and Palestine, people getting blown up in london, the terrible loss of life in the tsunami, etc.

fuck topps. idiots.

My opinion is that placing these kinds of images on playing cards trivialises them, It's disrespectful to say the least.

Do people actually collect these? Oh dear. I thought only kids swapped and collected cards of cartoon characters or whatever.

I understand the reaction, but I did a little research and they aren't doing a series of cards based on the London bombings. They are doing a series of "News headlines" cards to try to get kids more interested in current events. Dumb idea, and you wind up with totally tasteless trading cards, but I guess they have good intentions. Why do they think kids will give a flip, just because it's on a trading card?

Just think, somebody actually got paid to come up with such a harebrained marketing move. rolleyes

now, if you embossed the letters in gold, put it in a tacky frame, and stamped "WE WILL NEVER FORGET" somewhere on it, it would be considered a solemn memorial collector's edition keepsake and they could sell it for $59.95 plus postage and handling.

not that anything like that was done after 9/11.... whistling

Well, at least it says that they're giving all the proceeds to charity...I guess.

Reminds me of going to NYC sometime after 9/11...our hotel was right outside where the WTC used to be...vendors were everywhere, crowded around the perimeter of the area, selling their crappy "memorabilia" - most items tastelessly decorated with some artistic rendering of the towers crashing down, bluish-purple smoke billowing up around the rubble, or a tacky red sky illuminating the background. To me, it's just sick exploitation.

Although I still find it disturbing they also mention this:

Topps Chronicles cards document the most significant events occurring around the world each week. Unfortunately, at times, these events may be tragic in nature. Given the tragic nature of last week's event in London, Topps is donating 100% of the proceeds earned from the sale of this card to the London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund. This fund has been established in association with the British Red Cross to raise money for the victims and their families.
