There was a mother Urang Utan that was holding her lil one a few years back in Artis's Monkey House.
Behind glass, she sat against the window, looking bored at hordes of little kids and mothers.

Until I walked in. She looked up and her eyes followed me around the room as I made my way to the other side of the window, where there was no one. There i sat down next to the glass.

Urang Utan's, like Chimps, are very smart and animated, so all the people with their nose pressed against the window saw her look and followed her look, to see what she was watching.

Then she decidedly got up, walked to my side and sat down next to me. Then
showed me her offspring. She seemed very happy when I smiled. Cuz then, while many camera shutters were making lotsa noise, she kissed the glass. I, of course, kissed her back.

I was so stupid not to ask anyone for a print. Stoopid.

My Story...

About 12 or so years ago, I went to the Zoo during a weekday (when I was working a few PT jobs...I had off during the week). It was the lincoln park Zoo in fact. So there we were...enjoying our day. We're in the Monkey House...it's kinda stinky. ANd there's no one there except for me and her and this wonan holding a 2 year old.

We're pointing and looking at the monkeys behind the glass and we notice this one that was a bit active swinging from tree to vine and basically having a good time. Now it all happened so vvery quickly, but I could see the swing/jump pattern of the monkey and it was headed for a romp right by us...well actually right by the woman and child. I saw it happen before it did and before I could say anything "THWOMP THWOMP THWOMP" and it landed squarely in front of the kids face. The kid screamed instantly out of being suddenly surprised like that. The woman quickly took him out of the Monkey house.

I have never laughed so hard in my life. I'll bet that kid is traumatized forever with monkey phobia.

Once I was at the San Francisco Zoo, looking at that nifty albino alligator they had a few years back. My sisters and I wandered to the monkey house, where we saw a chimp sitting up on a branch, nonchalantly peeing onto the floor below. Another chimp reached over, cupped its hands underneath the pee, then drank it.
