My dad never hit me but he always used to try and "teach me to be a man". He had 2 other sons, both straight, in his marriage after he left us and they treat him like shit. My dad has totally changed his tune and dropped the macho BS. Even calling me his hero once. Thank God some people change.

This maniac bastard. How truly sad that anyone let this happen. Surely the comments from others indicate that they knew....

nothing really surprising to me. everyone should start with pointing a finger at themselves 1st. this has become acceptable and common place in society, (esp. american). we read in shock, verbalize with anger, then what? it's not only the images we accept, but also the roles we are told to conform to. you can't change people; but you can change the situations. someone taught hate, and the tolerance of it. what we buy, read, laugh about, what we watch on film; what we remain silent about, or turn a blind eye to....that story is the result of society saying 'it's ok'...and not that it came down to this...but somehow that this man (for lack of a better word) was allowed to get away with it for so long. yes, he did get away with it. he killed a child, destroyed lives, and again the world is shown that it's ok to hate, prejudge, and destroy anything that you do not agree with. wanting to kill or crucify him makes no one any better than the killer himself. the way you speak to people, or treat them in general, can and usually does make a lifelong affect on them. as sad, horrific, and disturbing as this story is, just think of all the other ones we've not read or heard about.
