I'm fucked for ideas for Christmas presents for my wife this year - since there ain't gonna be another LOTR box set for her to add to her list, it's gonna have to be Harry Potter SO MAKE THE DAMN FILMS DAMNIT! There's always The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe. Take her to the movies.

Now I've got to wait for who knows how long for the final book! I must admit, I'd already heard about some of the plot points in the new book a while back, so I was really looking forward to it. When the opportunity came to get a copy early, I jumped at the chance (it was only by a couple of days, so I don't feel too guilty). it certainly sets up things for the final book, and I liked the way it links back to the Chamber of Secrets. Even though I kinda knew what was gonna happen at the end, it still managed to give a few surprises, and the way certain plot points were double bluffs was good too. It also seems like there's an awful lot to fit into the final book. I am around page 400. Up til now I really love that Rowling seems to have tidied up after two previous rambling books that seemed to have too many pages to fit a too fickly story. The story is as tight, exciting and fun as the first two books! Hurrah for Harry! I just loooove that Voldemort character... he is like Darth Vader for a new generation.

I've enjoyed the series so far. Yes, some of it is derivitive of Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic (he even sued her over it, eventually settling out of court), but it is still quite enjoyable. Oh, and has anyone seen the trailer for Goblet yet? It is FANTASTIC!!! hmmm. i just checked out the gaiman books - they look cool and as you mention there appears to be a resemblance between timothy hunter and harry potter... interestingly rowling was involved in litigation with nancy stouffer, the lady who coined the phrase 'muggles' and whose hero is named 'larry potter': i think the harry potter books contain a lot of commonly used fantasy and mythology. they're a sort of conglomeration of many legends into one [Edited 7/15/05 14:37pm] I remember reading about this. Her "Muggles" are completely different in definition from the Rowling books, but it still smacks of plagerism that she used this word, along with "Harry Potter" (vs "Larry Potter". I mean, c'mon! She changed the first letter?) Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I know what you mean. It still feels like there's more to the events at the end of the book than meets the eye, and who is this R.A.B.? The only possiblity I can think of is Sirius' brother Regulus Black (though we don't know his middle name), but he was apparently a Death Eater that was killed by Voldemort for deserting.
